i had missed her every time she and the band came to town, but finally dragged my sorry ass over to n 6th last night
first off, she's got such a command of the stage when she's up there, which is probably b/c her band is a pretty cantankerous lot in their own right
she played for about an hour, more or less, covering lots of faves and generally just having a great time with it
we danced the entire time she played...fast tunes, slow tunes [she played 'yr love is mine' after announcing 'now's a good time to find yr partner', which of course we were only too happy to do]
overall, amazing show...

Check you out, Nick, going to all kindsa shows! Sounds like you had a great time. Sorry to say, I'm not familiar with Holly Golightly and band -- any suggestions as to where I should get a feel for her?

yeh, in the last few weeks ive seen holly, silver mt zion, patti smith, pelican, ummm, i forget who else...going to magnolia tomorrow, an improv thing on friday, & i think there's somehting i have tix for on sat but i cant recall

as for holly, she;s stright up garage-y r&b. feels like you should be at a sock hop, & most of the songs are either about the man you lost or the woman you lost him to. some subject matter for this day & age, haha. i shouldnt fucking laugh, it's not funny at all...

you can check out maybe 2 songs at epitonic.com under holly golightly and theyre prob older ones - i think it's 'wont go out again' and 'yr love is mine' [which is an odd recording from an older 7", i believe, but you'll get the picture]

i basically plan to turn into an east coast you and hit as many shows as possible. it's a nice distraction for the time being and i feel pretty god damned young again, going out and dancing all night, every night.

she played the halloween show at spaceland, but i was there to see mr. airplane man and left before she came on...
