Top 13 (or 14, depending on how you count the Belew discs) as of this very moment:

Bar Kokhba Sextet - (John Zorn's) 50th Anniversary Celebration Vol. 11
Adrian Belew - Sides One AND Two
Andrew Bird - Mysterious Production of Eggs
Mike Doughty - Haughty Melodic
Brian Eno - Another Day on Earth
Bill Frisell - East/West
Aimee Mann - The Forgotten Arm
Pelican - The Fire in our Throats
Glen Phillips - Winter Pays for Summer
Dug Pinnick - Emotional Animals
Archer Prewitt - Wildnerness
Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
Martha Wainwright

Runners-up for various noted reasons
The Decemberists - Picaresque (just didn't fully click, but I like it a lot)
Engineers (real nice, but hasn't fully grabbed me yet)
Peter Himmelman - Imperfect World (Loved it at first, then it just slipped away from my attention)
Bob Mould - Body of Song (too new to judge yet)
Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth (technically, I really like this, but I just don't listen to it often)
The Pernice Brothers - Discover a Lovelier You (too new to judge yet)
Michael Penn - Mr. Hollywood, Jr., 1947 (too new to judge yet)
Robert Plant - Mighty ReArranger (really enjoy it, but not sure I'd say it's a year's-best)
Porcupine Tree - Deadwing (a let down after In Absentia)
Spoon - Gimme Fiction (I really like it a lot, but not sure it qualifies.

no it's not... i cheated and listed a few advances on the list. there's 3 ep's- the demo, the 6 song one, and the official s/t released through sub pop. the album is pretty much songs from the demo + 6 song ep combined, with a few added tracks and more production so the versions of some of the songs are different. if you like the ep, you'll like the album.

Not in order, and not 10, but...

Decemberists
Ryan Adams
Stars
Josh Rouse
Frank Black
Deathray Davies

...probably Ryan Adams at #1. Just went through that again today and dammity is that a good record. I can't ask him for much more than that.

I have so many damn albums to sift through, it makes me nervous.

I can tell you that Sigur Ros and Russian Futurists will be top 5.

two albums currently juuuuuust outside my top 10, #11 okkervil & #12 antony (with #13 new porn). i'm still growing into antony -- my biggest complaint is the album is so short.

your toughest battle for #1 will probably be his other 2 albums, if he remains as consistent.

The collaboration with Calexico (entitled "In The Reigns") is fabulous and, when paired with Woman King, makes for a serious record of the year contender. I dont think its out quite yet though, but I highly recommend it,

Seriously, Kreator?

What's it like, early power metal Kreator or more thrash-y? Compare this to Renewal if possible.
