edit- just saw that the Black Keys are already up there. And autolux. Someday I'll learn how to read. really, I promise.

Actually, I've been editing the list this morning. Those might have been added after you posted.

So far I've added everything mentioned unless the release date is questionable, just to err on the side of keeping the list smaller (which so far means no Muse and no Elbow). At some point I'll take some time to verify the release dates of stuff I'm not familiar with.

Also, just to clarify, this is just a large pool I'm working on for later use, but it can also function as "release recommendations". So list as many albums as you want so long as you know you really like them and they're not already up there.

It really helps me when updating the list if people put the albums into the same format: Artist - Title. No quotation marks around the album name, and bold and italics aren't necessary (but don't hurt) since I'm just copying and pasting from your posts.

Perhaps we can start a 'Recomended List' in 2005. Anyone can nominate an album by starting a poll 'Should X album make list - yes or no' and if the album gets 15 or 20 votes it goes on the Obner Recomended List.

That would be a lot of threads... and if people weren't familiar with the abum in question it could get voted down unnecessarily. I think one earnest recommendation is enough. Folks can check things out at their own peril.

I meant new releases. Not any old album. I don't think there would that many threads. How many great albums come out each week?

Good job Drinky Crow on adding my selections. Thou admittedly I could of done away with a handful, I did leave off about two dozen that I thought would never make it. So there was some thought behind it but not refined. Stuff like Delgados and King Of Convenience will make an impression on the overall list.

From Amazon.com

Muse – US release March 23, 2004 (WB)
Elbow- US release January 27, 2004 (I hope this album was not forgotten) (V2)

Sadly Nacho, Seafood’s new one has not seen an American release. Which is too bad because it is their best album to date and one of those unearth treasures of 2004.

Oh, and Bravecaptain are totally self-serving but even F’n’B seems to get it somewhat.

I knew what you meant, but you're right. It wouldn't be too many threads.

The more legitimate concern might be that more obscure stuff wouldn't get enough votes to make the list until late in the year, if that.

Still, I think we should try it.

I didn't see these any where and I like them pretty well:

Bobby Bare Jr. - From the End of Your Leash
The Mendoza Line - Fortune

Other than that, I think every CD I bought in 2004 is in this thread somewhere.

You'll have to explain to me how this joke maintains itself for an entire opera/ album.

I'm kinda on there. I have to find a computer where I can use the software, but I'm all signed up and everything.

Maybe I can use my girlfriend's computer... heh

I don't know how I feel about hearing another Seafood album. I really liked their first one, but the second one was so bad I couldn't even trade it in anywhere (aka nowhere would take it back). It seems like they're overly-anglophiling themselves in order to reach a bigger audience - the same thing happened to South...
Such a shame, really. Just because you're British doesn't mean you have to go all Coldplay on everyone in order to be good/popular...

I liked the last Seafood disc. I had never heard of them before that, and haven't heard anything since.
