Wtf? Don't bands at this stage in their career normally end up signing with Sanctuary or something?

Well they were always one of the radio bands I could tolerate, but they aren't even a radio band anymore. They haven't had a hit since 1999. And their last 2 CDs probably sold under 400,000 combined. So I don't know why EPIC wants to have anything to do with them. They may as well sign Right Said Fred.

They're getting airplay on Hot AC and some Triple A stations. Their singles have been mellower and they're being marketed less and less as a heavier rock group and more of an AC one. It's happened to many veteran bands.

Their last single on AC was with Shelby Lynne. There's a mix.

Yeah "Runaway" right? That song wasn't so bad really. But I never heard the version with Shelby Lynne.

I can't listen to Throwing Copper anymore - it's just worn out, but I do like Secret Samadhi quite a bit, as well as The Distance To Here, which was really pretty excellent - I listened to that quite a bit for a while, actually. V was horrendous, a desperate plea for some kind of market attention that never came. Birds of Pray is okay, not bad but nothing particularly special. I hear these guys quite a bit because my wife really likes them. I really don't think they're anywhere near as bad as you guys want to make them out to be. I'm just not cool enough to care whether they rate on the hip-meter or not. It's just music.

Strangely, they're playing here after a Diamondbacks game at the BOB this Saturday.

BREAKING NEWS: Schoolchildren save a duck, Live signs with Epic, and some dude in Azerbaijan takes a dump. Coming up after the break: some more shit I don't care about.

I mean, Throwing Copper, really? How anyone could get by that guy's voice is beyond me.

HA HA Could not agree with you more!
I'm not a big fan of Live at all. The closest they ever come to good was Mental Jewelry. I hung out with them last year in Atl. at a strip club. Ed has a terminal case of the ghey.

I'd say this is a case of a bigger label learning a lesson from one like Sanctuary.

It's a "pipeline" signing all the way...they're a band that can sell between 200-300 K copies of a given record ( I dunno what their audience is like outside the US, but I'm betting it's still pretty solid ) without having to spend a ton of money on promotion. Every label needs bands like that to fill up their distribution pipeline.

Helps make up for the bands that they spend a ton of $$$ trying to break that flop.

I liked them okay 10 years ago. They're one step away from becoming Vertical Horizon at this point.

Wow. Not surprised.

Yeah, Mental Jewlery has a couple good songs. ( I actually just heard "Pain Lies On The Riverside" the other day)

I've played a couple of their songs as covers: "Beauty of Gray" in HS and "Mirror Song" during my stint in the "Busty Rhodes Experience" or whatever that band was/is called. The bass player is good.

But I would generally classify them as garbage. Smelly, smelly garbage.

And you'd kill to be playing in that "band" now too.
