Just had to share this....

tonight and tomorrow night I'm fortunate enough to have received 4 passes to witness the Johnathan Demme directed film of Neil Young performing songs from his upcoming album Prairie Wind at the legendary Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN.

Press Release from Reprise Records about the event.

Some of you may know that Neil Young is one of my musical idols, and I'm about to jump out of my skin with excitement about this opportunity.

I'll write a little more tomorrow and Saturday after the shows.

Tonight was totally kewl. Neil had a full band and played through the entire Prairie Wind record. On first listen, it's classic Young. A little folky, a little country and a little classic rock. It wasn't a disappointment.
He's pretty good at stage banter, but is so soft-spoken to the point of mumbling. Anyway, there was an intermission and he came out with a new backdrop (replicating the stained glass windows at the Ryman) and started out with Heart of Gold, Old Man and Needle and the Damage Done. Comes a Time was in there as well as Harvest Moon and a couple I didn't recognize (I don't own the whole catalog). He closed out with "One of these Days" which I had never heard his version of. I only knew it from Bill Frisell's cover on his record, Nashville. He had a stage full of musicians. The Fisk University Jubilee singers, a string section and about 7 others including Emmylou Harris who was present for most of the entire set.
All total it was a 3 hour show. Jim James was there with a lady friend as was Aldley Freed (sp?) formally of the Black Crowes. I'm sure there were some other NashVegas celebrities there, but I don't always recognize them.
Back for round two tomorrow night.

Awesome. Kiss Neil's feet for me tomorrow. That's great that he played with the Jubilee choir. They sounded great with Neil on his "When God Made Me" at the Barrie Live 8 . I'm infinitely jealous. As I'm wont to do at least 3 times a year, for no less than a month each, I've become seriously Neil-fixated once again in the last couple months. Most recently, I've been enjoying "Arc", which is crushing in such a righteous way. Neil precedes everything that is good, and I imagine "Prairire Wind" could too.

Thanks Chris. My time is limited on the old board, and when I come on I rarely find anything I feel the need to add to. Hope you're well. Who's ready for UGA football? Are you making it to the opener? Not me, I'll be in Americus visiting the parents (taking Kate with me so she can see the desolation)

Damn Brother, I won't be there either, Wedding in NJ (and doing the same meet the other side of the fam thing with the ol girl)

Glad to see you are keeping it tight.

You planning on making ANY games this year?

I *might* make it to UT/UGA in Knoxville. I haven't really looked at the schedule to see if I can make it to the games.

What a cool night. That would be one pinnacle existential moment for me.
