"New Pornographers to Kick Off Tour on Monday

David Nadelle reports:
Everyone's favorite seven-headed pop machine, the New Pornographers, will be kicking off their North America tour on Monday. An extensive tour schedule sees the band playing dates over the next two months on both coasts and, for some lucky ducks, cities in between. Why this sudden increased flurry of activity within the Pornographers' camp? It might have to do with the fact that the band's new album, Twin Cinema is landing in stores very soon. In fact, an understandably antsy Matador is releasing the album on Tuesday!

If this news isn't enough to put a smile on your face, the tour itself is set to be a full family and friend affair which is destined to be lively and memorable. Joining the band on most dates are opening bands Destroyer, which is part-time New Pornographers songwriter and performer Dan Bejar's main project, and Immaculate Machine, who feature one Kathryn Calder, the somewhat newly discovered long lost niece of the Pornos' ace tunesmith Carl (A.C.) Newman. Like countless others in the past, Calder has joined the band for the time being, after providing some vocals on Twin Cinema as well as sitting in for the sometime absent Neko Case.

Finally, another little something that might brighten your day would be to seek out the new pornographic (ok...not really) video for "Use It" which features the band as lumpen dummies being manipulated by not-very-well-disguised helpers, including a black-clothed David Cross, favorite potty-mouthed comedian (and Bluth family associate) of the indie rock clique. Here are the tour dates and retail performances:

08-22 Seattle, WA - Sonic Boom Records, Ballard, street date in-store performance, 11pm
08-24 San Francisco CA - Amoeba Music in-store performance, 7pm

I'll definitely be hitting up the Nashville show as well; MMJ shows are a dime a dozen, New Pornos are from frickin' Canad(i)a. Can't wait :rawr:

I agree that this show wont come around that often, but where I live, no show is a dime a dozen.

Crap. They're playing the same night as the Fiery Furnaces here in LA. And I already got tix to that show.

If I would have known, I would have opted for the New Pornos, if only to finally get to see Destroyer.

If you haven't seen Fiery Furnaces before (and they still have the drummer they did last fall), I'd have gone with them anyway. Seriously, the craziest drummer I've ever seen.

I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure the wife and I conceived our daughter after seeing New Pornos at Bimbo's 365 during a San Fran vacation a couple years ago - a great, great show. Maybe we'll go for an encore at the Southgate House (Northern Kentucky) this October.
