They give it a 9.0. While I still think EV is better, I couldn't agree with this line more:

Quote:
PFM: "Yet in the upset of the year, it's drummer Kurt Dahle who practically steals Twin Cinema's show."

Most notable on the outro of Bleeding Heart Show, I think.

I'm not even a fan of this group, but I've heard "Twin Cinema" and "Use It" and now I'm set on going out and buying the album tomorrow.

Yea, that's been my favorite on the album since I first heard it. So good.

I think saying anything this band has ever done is worth more than like a 7 is exaggerating things. That said, "Jackie, Dressed in Cobras" is a pretty great song.

"Electric Version" is the pinnacle of power pop genius. Coupled with "Come On Feel The Lemonheads" and "Life's Rich Pageant", it makes up the sort of 80's/90's/00's triumvirate of power pop majesty, IMHO.

So you can slag off, he who only criticizes.

Well I don't think any of their albums are anything special. I'd rather just listen to Neko Case's or Destroyer's albums. I really hate AC Newman's solo album, though.

And I always thought Mass Romantic was the album all the New Pornographers fans went on about. I noticed that the fans were a little underwhelmed with Electric Version.

Yes, I notice this also. I still feel that, for what it is, EV is pretty damn close to perfect.

I like EV best as well; and I think that what is redeeming about the New Pornographers is that their music seems to be standing up over a few years as opposed to most of the disposable indie music that we babble about and then kill.

"mass romantic"'s still my fav. the new one probably #2. there's just a immaculate catchy playfulness of the first that hasn't been matched yet.

surprisingly positive review from pfm, tho

review starts out kind of like their review in 03 of Electric Version.
Still, there's no Method Writing or Concept bullshit going on, so I can dig it.

I'm surprised a reviewer hasn't commented on the awful cover yet.

Yeah. Cool review.

Can't wait to hear it.

Saw them live last year & bought Mass Romantic at their show, in Toronto.

I must say Neko Case did wonders for the vocals. It'll be interesting to see what the new female vocalists bring to their sound.

If you'd have told me they'd pull off this good a record without much help from Neko... I'd have called you a ninny.
Gladly, I would've been wrong. The wait's never worth it, but this is amazing.

I've always liked EV better than MR; Haven't heard the new one yet, picking it up tomorrow morning first thing. This is will be the first cd I've bought since June, I believe. This hasn't been a great summer for me.

I loved the first 2 but don't have a favorite. Really like the new one. I'll have to wait and see if it joins the first two.

Not a huge fan of EV but perhaps I haven't given it enough of a chance. I think TC is stellar though.

They're pretty much three-for-three on that count.

It might be the worst cover art by a legit band I've ever seen. Even if the intent was to be intentionally low-quality, it's just plain awful - not even "so bad it's funny" awful. Just awful. It is a Design Atrocity!
