Last Tuesday night I came home from work and decided to set up this tent that we got from a friend in the backyard to see if all the parts were there.

So I start to get all the parts out of their bags and I get to the poles. They are collapsible so they have the elastic in the middle to keep them together. I start pulling one of the poles out and the one that it's attached to fucking bolts out of the bag and hits me in my OPEN eye.

I fell straight on the ground and was squirming around like crazy. I mean the pain was unbeleivable. Funny enough the first thing I thought of was "How is this going to affect my guitar playing?". Wierd.

Anyway, after about ten minutes I went inside to tell my gf's Mom who just happen to be over at the time. We went to the hospital and then I got transferred over to a optomitrist's (sp) office to get checked out.

Seems I had torn my cornia, but not very badly. So he basically put a contact over my eye to keep the air out of it, gave me three different kinds of eye drops to put in it and told me to come back in in two days.

Thise two days were fucking awful cause I've been working this week at our annual dealer show and I have to be on my feet for 15 hours a day for about 10 days straight showing off our software to prospective dealers. So I'm looking at a computer screen ALL FUCKING DAY.

I went back on Friday and the guy takes the contact off or my eye, and everythings fine. My visions a little off but he said that it would be fine by the end of the week. So basically...I'm a lucky bastard and obviously need to start wearing safty glasses everywhere I go.

Sorry for the long story.

Something similar happened to me playing basketball a couple of years ago, and it was MISERABLE. Trying to go to sleep was the worst. I feel for you.

That's awful...a little funny, but nonetheless an awful experience. You'll laugh about it one day.

Glad to hear you're back to normal.

And stop messing with your face. You have a nice looking face and you're always fucking with it. ;)

I can't believe you were trying to pitch your tent when your gf's mom was home.

Oh man that was bad. I'm sorry. Hope your eye feels better.

I'm glad that I reported this story to this group of strangers in an accurate manner.

I still wish that you had an eyepatch.

I've not had anything happen to my eyes but I was deaf in one ear for about three weeks and it is as someone already said it was really really miserable.

Incredibly frustrating and depressing.

Earlier this year, I was loading a couple of boxes unto one of those little luggage carts. While pulling the bungee cord over to secure the boxes, the cord slipped outta my hand and WHAAAAAAAAAAAP right on my eye. I know about the pain you experienced.

It was the first time I've ever had a shiner.

Yow.

I have a similar story, but mine includes being a dumbshit.

I was getting stuff to clean my contacts at a clearance store. "Hey, it's sealed, how bad could it be?" I thought. I opened a new bottle, doused my contact and put it in. Instantly, it started burning the shit out of my eye. I couldn't get it out, because my eye had slammed shut in pain, and I had to wait until the tears flushed the stuff out. I thought maybe I had touched something evil, so I rinsed my fingers off, then squirted the lens off with the same fluid and put it back in the same eye. The pain was so intense, all I could do was bend over the toilet and drool in pain.

The pain finally subsided but vision in that eye was badly blurred. I had the GF drive me to the hospital. I showed them the bottle and they told me the offending ingredient was hydogen peroxide. My eye was FU for several days- no permanent damage, luckily.

Why would you rinse it off with the same stuff again?

Because I thought it was just something I had on my fingers and just hadn't rinsed it enough. I had no reason to suspect the eye fluid. Hell, it was made to clean the contacts, you were just supposed to rinse them off w/ another fluid before inserting into the eye.
