Is anybody else still holding out on this one? I've never had one, but unwittingly moved into a house without a landline this fall and rather than be a slave to MaBell I decided to go with a mobile. I'm more-than-half-regretting this already. Do pretty much all the rest of y'all have one?

not having a cellphone is pretty irresponsible nowdays, unless your name is darrin frew and no one wants to call your sorry buster ass anyway.

not to sound like the 19yearold fuckard that i am, but that's exactly what my mom said. "irresponsible." i just don't quite see that...i don't have a car, i bike everywhere so it's not like i'm in danger of getting stranded somewhere.

i basically am buying it just to ensure that i have some sort of a social life this semester.

I held out as long as possible, and now I'm a fucking slave to mine. I love it and fucking hate it at the same time.

If the camera on mine took better pictures, and if it played mp3's, I'd sleep with mine.

I use mine as a reminder, a flashlight, a radio, phonebook, watch, and alarm clock. Oh yea, and a phone.

I don't have one and I know I'm always in the minority in this case. Even my parents have one and they're both retired. However, as I write this, I'm taking a break from writing up a federal grant proposal to study the effects of mobile phones on the brain. This is the other reason I don't have one.

I still don't have a cell phone. I'm not prepared to pay for two phones and my landline works fine for me. I work at an office so I've got access to a phone all day. Obviously, when I'm at home I've got my landline. And when I'm out, I just don't have much call to talk to people I'm not with.

I've got an answering machine, I can always call someone back later.

I don't have a landline at home. I have free minutes from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am on weekdays, and all day on weekends, which are the only times that I am not at work, so it works great for me.

If I had a landline or if I was still living in a dorm, I'd be just fine with that. It's just weird living in an actual home and not having any way for anyone to get in touch with me. Besides e-mail.

Just think if there was a somewhat large hole on that puppy.

I realized reading this thread that I'm more of a Luddite than I imagined. I don't own a car, a cell phone, an mp3 player, or even a home computer for that matter. I do have cable TV though.

Maybe I should think about moving into the 21st century at some point.

i have a cell phone - don't use it all that much but it is useful for 2 purposes:

1. getting together/coordinating with friends when we go out drinking
2. getting in touch with wife to avoid "issues"

Correctamundo.

I hate the things, but broke down & bought one about 2 years ago when my car broke down in the middle of fuggin' nowhere. At that point, I realized it'd be nice to have one for emergencies like that.

I went with a "Pay as you go" phone from Virgin mobile...the way I use it, it only ends up being about $5 a month.

I hardly ever use mine, but they ARE nice to have when you need 'em.

i hate actually talking on the phone - i just wish my ipod could send text messages - if so I would just get rid of my cell phone. also if it had outlook and could wirelessly sync with my laptop - then i could really get down to one device.
