I accidentally did that once while I was driving (placed it on the seat while waiting for a call). Almost had an accident.

I have an old jockstrap left over from high school, and while my job doesn't require the use of a cup, I feel bad not using the pouch for anything.

I still don't have one. I was thinking of breaking down and getting one of those pay as you go phones since my job is going to start requiring me to travel more in the next couple of months.

Any suggestions?

I've had Verizon for 5 months and they've been excellent. I did notice that they had a pay as you go phone when I first signed up with them but I just have a regular contract.

I went with a "Pay as you go" phone from Virgin mobile...the way I use it, it only ends up being about $5 a month..

I went Virgin, too -- last month, in fact (no contracts & no hidden fees).

i hate actually talking on the phone - i just wish my ipod could send text messages - if so I would just get rid of my cell phone. also if it had outlook and could wirelessly sync with my laptop - then i could really get down to one device.

interesting note from my company's intranet:

Handtop PCs aren’t “science-fiction”
Among the new converged devices on the immediate horizon, will be a new category: ultra-efficient “Handtop PCs.” These impressive new machines will offer a PC-like experience but, remarkably, will weigh less than 1 pound. And they’ll require just the barest trickle of electricity: around 1/2 watt of processing power.

A reference design that Otellini showed off at IDF was a sleek unit the size of small paperback.

It featured a 5-inch screen, all-day battery life, full QWERTY keyboard, Bluetooth technology, always-on Wi-Fi, and support for full-featured operating systems such as Microsoft’s VISTA.

Smiled Otellini, “this isn't science fiction... we expect these products in the first half of 2006.”

I have no cellphone and probably never will get one. I think they are the most annoying devices on the planet.

Go bang around Howard Forums and you can probably get more geographically specific information.

Where I live, Verizon is definitely the way to go. Cingular has absolutely no coverage on my peninsula, so I ditched them pretty quickly.

A friend of mine in Louisiana that travels all the damn time swore by AT&T, which is now Cingular. But read those forums and you can probably get some pretty useful information.

Cellphones don't annoy people, people with cellphones annoy people.

Strangely enough I have actually had a dream where I was being chased by an army of gigantic cellphones a la Fantasia.

Me, OPA and Flowthgin should form a club.

What's wrong with saying "I'll meet you tomorrow, 5 o'clock, at the Bon Accord bar" and then meeting that person the next day at 5 o'clock at the Bon Accord bar?

Why do you need to phone your girlfriend from the train and say "Hi, I'm on the train, I'll be home in 5 minutes" instead of, say, just wait 5 minutes and saying "Hi, I'm here before you right now".

it's helpful when that five minutes turns into 25 minutes because you ran into somebody you know. or when it's five minutes from the restaurant but your dumb ass gets lost and you need directions.

I think the same way. I was at an amusement park last Saturday and I haven't been to one since five years ago and I was stunned at how many people were talking on them. I even saw someone answer their phone as a ride was coming to an end. The way I see it, it is ok to have one in case you break down and need to call for assistance but when you go somewhere like an amusement park, you should interact with the people you are with and enjoy the place.

Another thing that I do not understand is this: I am a college student and classes I am sure almost everwhere run on a schedule meaning they meet same time and place regularly. Still, people answer their phones and say "Yeah, I'm in class." First, why have it on when you should be learning, and second, shouldn't your friends and family know that you go to class?

My ranting is done.

I just don't like them. I don't like having to answer my cell phone only to get a call from a friend who "just wanted to say hello" or "was bored and thought they'd call". Or people who always forget to turn them off in the movie theater (there's always one). Or people who talk on them constantly (probably gossiping) either on the subway, bus, etc. instead of spending that time reading a book or listening to music. Or my favorite one - when somebody's cell phone goes off in class during a test. One girl even had the balls to actually answer it and chat for a few minutes before the Professor asked her to leave the room.

Although I do understand how they can be useful in an emergency situation.
