Just finished Life of Pi. I really can't believe how good this book is. I know it's mass market book and probably has been a mainstay of Oprah's Book Club and their ilk, but it is honestly the book that has affected me the most since high school. Not afraid to admit that I cried at the end. Fuck you for laughing.

Next in the queue:

"Drama City" George Pelecanos
"Killing Pablo" Mark Bowden
"Song for Sussanna: The Dark Tower VI" The King

I read that a few books ago. Good read. I hear the History Channel's two hour segment on that same topic is awesome. I've yet to see it though...

Just read the first, and have the third (thrift store finds at 50 cents each) but don't have this one yet... need to find it.

I think this is the best of the series by far.

I just finished reading "No Country for Old Men" by Cormac McCarthy, who is one of my favorite living authors. To anyone who has not read the border trilogy I highly recommend it.
Probably finish "Hey Rube" by HST tonight. I'm not exactly sure what is up next.

I'd suggest returning some folks books so you might be able to borrow some more......

I need to check out McCarthy once I lift my recent ban on reading anything but magazines, catalogs and the internets......

I was surprised by how much I liked All the Pretty Horses, but someone told me that Cormac McCarthy didn't really offer much more than that. So I haven't read anything else. Hmm. I think I'm going to the book store. Doesn't he have something new out?

I liked it and thought it was really good. My only beef was at the very end. When Martel hints that there were no animals on the ship and it was all them, I thought that was fantastic, because I hadn't even thought of that myself. And it was interesting to think "well, which is it?" but then he goes a step further and pretty much says flat-out that it was just people, there were no animals.

I would've liked it a lot more if they had left the debate up in the air. But he seems to nail down the point that it was just the people. That kind of ruined it for me.

Nevertheless, you should read "Self". It's an earlier novel of his and it's equally good, from what I read of it.

Currently reading The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen and really enjoying it. Next I think I'll read Wake Up, Sir by Jonathan Ames. Has anyone read this? Comments?

I'm still stuck on A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby...

Though I really wanna pick up the seemingly-delicious new handbook on semi-pretention by Bret Easton Ellis...

Excellent series! If you can, read the revised Gunslinger (DT1). Once I finished book seven I felt the need to start all over once again. And I did.

Along those lines, I'm reading Tommyknockers. I've been putting off this one for a while now based on what I've heard about his cocaine use at the time... Decent stuff thus far, though.

There are a few DT fans on this board...keep us posted on your observations throughout!

Just finished:

Mildred Pierce - James M. Cain
The Fuck Up - Arthur Nersesian

Concurrently reading:

Thomas Mann story collection
The Curious Incident of the Dog - Mark Haddon

On deck:
Gerard de Nerval or Lautreamont

It's actually been good not to have a TV for the last couple of months.

Hey has anyone read the Thrawn trilogy, which apparently is parts 6, 7 & 8 of the Star Wars saga?
