Yes, but don't start with them by getting Take Fountain. Get Seamonsters. Trust me.

Yes. The new record is okay, but it's nothing remarkable. I shelved it within three weeks and have had no urge to pull it out again.

The D4: Out Of My Head

God I hate this band so much. Upper middle class suburban white kids slumming it in a garage revival band. At least the Strokes have some decent tunes to back it up with.

I don't care about their background--their two records are solid, the first being better than this one. I like garage, be it first run or revival. They seem to pay decent respect to their forebearers with covers of The Scavengers, The Fun Things, Heartbreakers, and Lime Spiders. Not sure why they slagged back home--their stuff is miles ahead the crap we get in the states.

Just curious, what did you think of the Pan Am album?

Yeah I know Garage Rock is like your thing Billz, and that's cool. The Scavengers are cool and so are the Heartbreakers, but I haven't heard the other two.

I guess the reason they get slagged here is cos our radio stations have a 30% NZ music quota. We only have like 4 million people, and even though NZ has a higher good band per capita then almost any other country, with a large quota like that they really scrape the barrel sometimes. My hatred of the D4 is a little unwarranted though, but I still don't like them.

I haven't heard the whole Pan Am album, but I did like their old singles - 'Interstate Boy' and 'Japanese Girls'. They got quite a bit of airplay here with those two. The singles predate the album they're on by like 3 years though, so the rest of the album may sound different.

Alright, I put this together quicker than I expected, but there's still nothing final about it. I don't usually listen to albums prior to their release date, so this is pretty much just albums through August:

1. Edan – Beauty and the Beat
2. Sleater-Kinney - The Woods
3. Xiu Xiu - La Foret
4. LCD Soundsystem – LCD Soundsystem
5. Ween - Shinola Vol. 1
6. Quasimoto – Further Adventures of Lord Quas
7. Fannypack – See You Next Tuesday
8. Of Montreal – The Sunlandic Twins (I can see this being a future classic - the songs are all surprisingly strong, I just don't need to listen to it all that often)
9. Venetian Snares - Rossz Csillag Alatt Született
10. M.I.A. – Arular

Scored better than your 0 out of 5.

And yes, Fannypack is there, but this is really just all temporary. Especially because it's August.

Dude, Dalen, just give it up. The whole "giving people shit" is cool as far as I'm concerned, but honestly, you're losing your own opinions on music JUST so you can go out of your way to say the opposite of my views. Not saying you like Fannypack, but just in general, you need to stop.

It's not pissing me off anymore, it's just ridiculous. You're gaining half of your post count by using the little "lol" face at all of my posts. In my honest opinion, you have the worst music taste out of anyone on this board (and there's a couple people with pretty shitty taste), so your opinion couldn't mean any less to me. I really do not care what you think.

Dalen, seriously get over it. You're one of my favourite posters and all, but stop ragging on the dude. He's said some stupid things before, but he has pretty decent taste and it's alot more interesting then other posters lists.

Well i gave him 2 out of 10 [you gave him 3 outta 10]. i was being nice.

But Fannypack in the Top Ten releases of the year tells me that he needs to head down to the record shop. I'm tryin' to help him out.

I think Kanye is about to take up another slot in my Top-10.

His new direction on Late Registration is nice. I expected/wanted another College Dropout, but his latest offering is definitely something different and refreshing.

I don't think Dalen is trying to ridicule his taste of music. Dalen is just so obsessed with the music he likes , and I think he gets off on sharing his fav tunes he digs with others , that he may be a little rude or pushy is only because he wants you guys to feel the bliss he gets outta the tracks. He has a disease. It's music. He can't control it. Good for him.

2. Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
3. Sleater Kinney - The Woods
4. M.I.A - Arular
5. Annie - Annimal
6. Various Artists - Run The Road

What are you, his publicist? I wasn't talking about his favourite tunes or anything. I like his taste more then most of the boring standard indie taste some posters have here. It just seems like he has an unnatural amount of spite towards Makes No Sense At All.

Ahhh , a bit drunk , my bad. Haven't been here too long to get to know the characters here yet. So , he really gives this guy a hard time often? Does anyone know if there is a reason behind this?

Anyways , why does it bother you soo much? I'm sure Makes no Sense is a big boy who can handle himself. Shit. He doesn't even have to reply , debate , or even give him the time of day. It's that easy man.

And oh yeah , I am Dalen's publicist.

Damn, forgot all about that Venetian Snares album.

And I need a pop album -- any recommendations? Favourites in recent years have been Kylie Minogue, Pink, and perhaps Annie. Doesn't need to be fem (Pet Shop Boys will do).

In all honesty, check out the thread on Fannypack I posted (there's a YSI of one track). Obviously many people here don't like them, but perhaps it's what you're looking for (more likely though, it's not.)

I feel a bit dumb liking them (sometimes it reminds me of something I'd hear in an Old Navy commercial or the like) but the whole album is really so undeniably catchy that I can't stop listening to it. They can be pretty creative at times as well.

Like I said, it's probably not what you're looking for, but it's worth a shot. Just don't go into it thinking they're some deadly serious group.

This might be though:

It's a good album, but I'm just not familiar enough with it yet to include it on my list at this point. I've given it one full listen.

HAHA. I have to try to prevent him from going. And no, I know you didn't mean it literally you just meant he needs to buy "better albums" i'm pretty sure he doesn't even physically own this one. I thought the album was okay. Some songs annoyed me because I really felt like I was driving with my sister especially when "On My Lap" came on. It's not bad, but it's nothing i'd be dying to go out and purchase. I enjoy it though. I guess I should post that in the Fannypack thread. Oh well.
