If there are specific Art History classes, it's always best to try to choose an area or period that you have some interest in. I went to art school, but art history wasn't offered as a major so chances are there were fewer class choices than there would be at a liberal arts school that offers a major in it.

I really enjoyed the class that focused on modern art. A lot of people really seemed to love the film history class. I'd warn agaisnt taking any kind of ancient art history (like cave paintings, Egyptian, etc.). That class fucking blew. Also a lot of post-Renaissance/pre-Impressionism European art is dull as fuck. I'm talking about Rococco, Baroque, and shit like that.

I wish I could've taken some class that focused on the history of Asian (specifically Chinese) art because that shit is pretty interesting. Some of the most famous Chinese painters were total drunken outlaws. It all ties in with the political history and various dynasties which is also pretty cool.

I have no idea how a generic "Art History 101" class would pan out, though. If it's part of a totally linear art history program then you might want to be wary. It could be all about ancient art and shit.

I enjoyed astronomy and a music history class. The latter focused on everything from Hildegard of Bingen to Philip Glass. I even kept the 6-CD compilation that we were required to purchase because it was so interesting.

I took an astronomy class, I just wanted to learn some constellations. Instead, I ended up calculating the speed of planets as they orbit the sun.
