...they'd like to share with us? More of the theater variety, not on DVD. I'd like to watch something tonight but don't know what.

The only movies that I have seen at the theater this year that I thought were worth a shit were "Cinderella Man" and "Wedding Crashers".

I guess "War of the Worlds" I'd recommend for a matinee.

All I see in the theaters are kids movies these days.
That said, Sky High was pretty fun.

Good movies to see:

Wedding Crashers
Broken Flowers
Red Eye
Cinderella Man
Hustle & Flow
Crash
Me and You and Everyone We Know

Good but somewhat overrated movies:

The 40 Year Old Virgin
The Four Brothers
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
War of the Worlds
Batman Begins

Dissappointing movies:

The Aristocrats
Nine Songs

See only if you are as obsessed with Scarlett Johansson as I am:

The Island

Nope. I agree that 40 year old Virgin and Wedding Crashers were both worth seeing because they're funny but I wouldn't put them in the class of "good" movies, just entertaining.

Based on what my local Regal Cinema is offering right now, I recommend:

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
War of the Worlds
Wedding Crashers

I heard good things about The Constant Gardener and The 40-Year-Old Virgin though.

Agreed. OPA what do you expect? Once you've seen all the movies at your local indie art house all you're left with is the Multiplex. I think it's fairly clear by people's posts what wasn't a flaming piece of shit this year.

I agree with Bloor. These days Hollywood only puts out 1-2 really great movies a year. It's becoming increasingly difficult for a movie to mesh entertainment, artistic integrity, and cinematic quality and get backing for it. Why should a big studio take a risk when shit like The Dukes of Hazzard will keep making them money?

I just assumed that people would recommend good indie or foreign films. Not The 40 Year Old Virgin.

But I totally agree with everything you said.

After watching that Z-Channel documentary 1 & a half times I'm really hungry for a movie channel that caters to film snobs. It's hard to believe at a time when there was only On, Select & Z Channel, Z catered to film snobs & at a time when there's like 452 movie channels film snobs are constantly stepping over the of the likes of the Al Franken show, Barbershop, Top Gun, Tranny hookers in Hawaii & Empire Records to find great cinema. And the only foreign cinema on TV is Audrey Tautou, Sergio Leone, kids killing each other in Brazil or a Peter Greenaway flick late at nite soley for the T&A factor. The same channel that shows you a 2 hour documentary on Fellini doesn't back it up with a Fellini film.
