You could probably edit this and College Dropout into one really sweet cd.

Well, if it means anything, I don't think either deserves a perfect 5/5, but they're about as good as 4.5/5 albums get.

i don't really consider it hate, i just don't like him as a rapper.

i remember the first time i heard him on a mix tape many moons ago. my thought was, "woah, i guess that's the last time anyone will let him near a mic"

i really thought it was laughibly bad.
he's gotten a bit better since then, but my impression has stayed the same:

top tier producer, very creative mind, painful to listen to rapper.

So what are the thoughts on this for those of you that just picked up the album yesterday? I'm enjoying this record. I hate Jay-Z, but enjoy his verse on the Diamonds track. Definitely a few filler songs and why must hip hop albums have stupid skits and last so damn long?

i'm not asking you to defend him, but i seriously don't understand how someone could like rap and hate Jay Z.

I was never really into Jay-Z, either. Coudn't take all the machismo and the Jesus complex. But that is a pretty sweet verse at the end of Diamonds.

What a dumb statement. It's not like he's some holy grail of hip hop. Replace Jay Z with BIG or something and maybe I could understand but that statement's ridiculous.

I guess this would be the typical indie response...

I used to like him, but when I saw and heard him all over the place I just plain got sick of him. That's all. It's not like I despise of his music, it's just I eventually stopped bothering to listen to it. I would agree though, that statement is a tad too much.

edit-as I look at my post above I noticed I used the word hate. that is a very strong word and it was used inappropriately.

np: OK GO-OH NO (solid album from start to finish. yes! )

Have you Jay-Z haters heard Reasonable Doubt before? I mean, really sat down and listened to it?

I'm with Jewels. Kanye's delivery leaves plenty to be desired.

Personally, I really disliked College Dropout.. so I didn't bother listening to Late Registration, at all.. but tonight I did and it's actually a pretty good album. No more Kanye hate from me. However, I really don't see what was so great about his first album though. It never has or will do anything for me.

Man, I just listened to College Dropout again last night and it's still a brilliant album. Time has been very good to Kanye's debut. Strangely enough, allmusic's scores for his two records are right on the money!

Then again, two of the albums in my Top-10 of 2005 were produced by Kanye, so I have a bit of an obsession with him to begin with.
