JOE FUCKING MONTANA!!!

As a diehard 49er fan I'm not even sure he's the greatest QB ever.

My take on the greatest? Ronnie Lott.

To me, great = personal accolades + team championships. Nobody out there -- QBs or otherwise -- can match JoMo when it comes to that.

BUT, I will give you props on the Lott pick. I have ALWAYS said he's the best defensive player of all time. Let's see LT have the same impact minus an appendange. Lott was BAD. ASS.

Par of this has to do with longevity. Part of it has to do with stats. Part of it has to be that I saw him.

And there is no disputing me on these things once I have made up my mind.
pretty much. by your argument Darrell Green is the greatest defensive player of all time.

I take it all back, Spade----you are actually a rational human being.

I thought you'd lose your shit on that one.

Hey Brian's Song brings a tear to my eye like anyone else's, but Sayers needed two more seasons.

The flip side of this argument is how much I hate the fact that Emmitt Smith is considered among the best ever simply because of durability...he was beyond a mammoth line for most of his career and has a very average YPC number. He's very clearly at least number 4 behind Brown, Payton and Sanders...

Agreed. Arent Drysedale and Whitey Ford both in the Hall with less than stellar numbers as well?

I put him at #3, slightly ahead of Sanders mainly because Emmit liked to get in the end zone and Sanders actually got pulled out on a lot of goal line situations----I like guys who have a nose for the endzone and Emmitt certainly did.

Plus, its not his fault that he played behind that line----dude still had to execute.

Scotty D might say that but not me.

LT is #1 defensively

Lott is a close second BTW

Drysdale doesn't belong. Ford is a bit tougher call, but you know Yankees always get the break. Waiting to hear from Twilight Kid on him AND Rizzuto.

I think Whitey is probably legit on cummulative numbers and postseason performances.

Kinda like Smoltz will.

Fucking Rizzuto. Is Billy Martin in as a player, too?

Tom Brady is getting dangerously close in half the time with less offensive talent around him.

EDIT: My JoeMo-pumping-gas-comment was a bit of an exaggeration to attract attention (it almost worked). I do think he's horrdenously overrated.

So, because I'm really bored I pulled Whitey's career stats:

Being 120 games over .500 is pretty cool. Attention Nolan Ryan.

Yeah, I took a closer look. Whitey definitely belongs.

Yeah it is pretty hard to argue with 83/122 (68%) for 1,142 yards 11 TD's & ZERO INT's in 4 Superbowls.

Tom Brady if he reaches another Super Bowl would have to go 12/14 for 407 yards & 5 TD's & get an INT on defence to undo the one he threw vs Carolina to match Montana's numbers.

Randall Cunningham.

i'm kidding, but he could have been, had buddy ryan realized that there is an offensive and defensive side to the game.

dude threw 407 yards in a thick fog to fred barnett and calvin williams, and people called him a choke because of it.
