I wonder what he thinks about "The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel"? Why.... that's just Queen playing there in that spot and wait! That's Chic! And I think I heard Blondie in there too! I wonder if Deborah Harry knows about this?

That review had very little to do with Kanye West and everything to do with how rap isn't really music.

That review is laughable. LooGar turned in more provocative shit when I was editing the Sights & Sounds page of our High School newspaper.

"There are plenty of other collaborators on "Late Registration" since West, you know, like Sean "Diddy" Combs and other rap entrepreneurs, does not actually sing."

Hilarious. This review would annoy the shit out of me if it weren't so laughable. This is why old, white Republicans should never be allowed to review hip hop.

Sampling? In hip hop? Say it ain't so....

That's true, he's probably one of the many liberal contributors to foxnews.com.

Apparently Chuck D is respectable real music but that crazy-ass Kanye, well that ain't workin', that's the way we do it, you sample yr guitar on the MTV.

I don't suppose the dude could consider that these samples introduce many people to older artists when the people mightn't give a shit otherwise?

let's face it....there has not been a GREAT rap/hip hop album in at least 10 years or so. so anyone that comes out with a somewhat decent album WILL GET PRAISED. look what kayne has to compete with - mike jones, bow wow, paul wall, etc, etc...give me a freakin break. kayne is GOD compared to these fools.....

where i agreed with the article....to sum it up: this album ain't shit and not worth all the hoopla. now the writer could have written that better - but oh well - the old, white, republican cat is just not hip enough to write a good review -> but at least he recognizes it.

You should have heard Bill O'Reilly last night on this. He had never heard of Kanye. Doesn't REALLY surprise me, but O'Reilly's quote was something to the effect of "West is done, he'll never be taken seriously again...he may have done pretty well for himself."
Kanye's statement will probably make his album sales explode.

I'm not even a big hip-hop fan and I find this a bit ridiculous.

Wu-Tang Clan Forever (1997).

I was about to point out this same thing. There have been plenty of great rap albums since '95.

i find you ridiculous for saying that

Wu-Tang Clan - 36 Chambers (1993)
that last really good album by them..yeah forever was ok....but doesnt compare....not to mention 7 years + some change since forever was out (you basically proved my point)....

outkast - stankonia. imo classic. goodie mob - soul food. its a strech, but it was released in 1995, so it just qualifies. company flow - funcrusher plus. granted, a compilation album of material released from 1994-1997, but most of it still qualifies. theres three of the top of my head.

Company Flow was my first thought upon reading that comment of his, but there are plenty of other classics as well.

i will give you outkast for sure.....almost 6 years

you are missing the point though......but let's look at the last few years...there really hasnt been anything that GREAT - so something somewhat decent comes out - it gets praised. i think kayne is WAY overrated. good - yes, great - no......and i think thats where the guy from the article was trying to go.....kayne is ok, but not deserving of this public enemy, etc tag that people are putting on his albums....

aside from stankonia (2000).....give me something that would be considered a GREAT album after 2000...and don't say eminem

that is my POINT......its a breathe of fresh air to hear kayne west b/c rap has been so bad...and that is why people are praising it......

the 10 years comment was a point i was making that really there hasnt been anything......outkast yes and i should have put a disclaimer.

I hardly think I proved your point because I threw out Wu Tang Forever. Your statement said nothing great in "at least 10 years", indicating a wider, undeclared margin. I mention a 1997 album and you close your limits to 7 years now. Outkast's Stankonia? Released in 2000, we're down to 5 years. I think Speakerboxxx/The Love Below was pretty great actually too and that was 2 years ago. So was The Roots Phrenology in 2002. And like I said, I'm not even a real hip hop fan. There are probably many others that could be spoken for as "great" which to me suggests a 8/10 rating.

I just think blanket statements that say a genre hasn't produced a great album in a decade is ridiculous.

i thought Speakerboxxx/The Love Below was junk.....

fine...i retract my 10 year comment.......i use to be a huge fan of hip hop..but in the last 10 years i honestly i have disliked everything that came out aside from stankonia (which i would give a 7/10 anyway).....

point being...rap is soooooo bad right now...anything to come out halfway decent is going to get praised....i should have just said that instead of the 10 year comment.

sounds like you've changed more than hip-hop has.
