I know this is probably for the best and that if they did reunite it would have a decent chance of just being hoary and uninspired, but goddammit I still would give just abouit anything to see them live.

Former Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown has turned down a $1.8 million (GBP1 million) offer to reform the influential guitar band for a tour, because he wants to preserve the band's place in history.

Guitarist John Squire, drummer Alan Wren and bassist Gary Mounfield have also been approached with the same offer - but Brown refuses to take to the stage with his former bandmates, because the magic which brought their songs to life has long since vanished.

He says, "We were like brothers once and that spirit is what made us. But now that spirit simply isn't there.

"It's not about the money. I just don't see how we could recreate what we had. It would spoil everything by trying."

i dislike ian brown for other reasons, like his solo material not being very good and sounding off-key live. i applaud him for this decision, though.

my favorite band is playing their last show this fall. i was with my dad when i heard and mentioned it to him. he said, "yeah, right, how many times have we heard this before? they'll be around again." and i half-agreed with him. if the stone roses say that they can't recreate what they once had, then i believe them. i don't want to see them half-assing it.

You know it's the right thing to do. Don't hate. How many folks in this world have given you one perfect album?

I'm glad he didn't accept. There's NO WAY they could play those songs with the same feeling and love that they used to. Not a chance.

This is fine by me. I like Stone Roses and all but I'm more into Ian's solo stuff anyways.

a reunion now would be awful.
