I love it. Definitely Top 20 for me, maybe Top 10. Some people think there's a lot of filler material on it but I think it works very well.

The Push Stars "Drunk Is Better Than Dead" - although the album isn't so much "middling" as "sucking at the sphincter of goat".

Edit: feck. Didn't see you wanted '05 albums. Ignore as usual.

I was with Ex-Lion Tamer through the first four (though there's other strong songs on those, too), but last two I don't find middling at all. Unless "favorites" is the same as middling.

I'm going to get beat up by Haq and mfudge, respectively, for considering the first two albums "middling," but I simply mean the albums are so-so -- not bad:

"Mr. November" - The National
"Black" - Okkervil River
"Sixteen Miliary Wives" - The Decemberists
"The Night Shift Lullaby" - Magnolia Electric Co.
"Kiss You" - Alaska! (possibly my biggest album disappointment of 2005 so far)
"Go It Alone" - Beck

I almost listed "Broadway (So Many People)" by Low, but that album is definitely sub-middling.

The only one I think I'd reconsider it the Camper song, as Key Lime Pie is really a fine album, but IMO "All Her Favorite Fruit" is head and shoulders above the other songs. I certainly stand by The Walkmen album, which I really don't like much.

And do you really think Cut The Crap is more than middling?

"End of Freedom" is probably my least favorite track on the Wilderness album. I think it's a little better than "middling", but the track I would pick from it would easily be "Marginal Over".

I also don't think Multiply is middling at all, just very uneven. I would probably pick the title track as the best song, too.

Now these, with the exception of Low ("sub-middling?", why you--) are what I'd call middling. My pick for Okkervil River would be "For Real", and the best song from the Magnolia Electric Co. album is "Hammer Down", without question. I couldn't give a shit about The Decemberists or Beck.

Its all good, Bobbo. I'm actually surprised it wasn't mentioned earlier in this thread.
