Was listening to Springsteen yesterday and began to think about how many of his songs are about his relationship with his Dad.

What songs can you think of (from any artist) that are about Fathers & Sons, whether it's - butting heads, regrets, reconciliations, independence from etc, etc. etc.

Steve

"Father's Words (Never Turn My Back On You)" - Terrence Trent D'Arby
"Beautiful Boy" - John Lennon (maybe not the vein you are trying to mine, but still about father & son)

I think all of Everclear's song have reference to his father but this is the main one that comes to mind.

Two of the better songs ever written regardless of the subject matter: Guy Clark's Randall Knife and Steve Goodman's My Old Man.

I've always thought that "Wonderful" was a great, great song.
Heartbreaking, but great.

It may not be about a FATHER, per se, but it is about a divorce, which relates to both parents. So, if you wanna fudge a little, it counts.

Not as far as I know.

"Waiting for Superman" is about Wayne's dad dying, though.

Now that I have kids, I think about that song whenever my son wants to play with me outside a little longer or begs me to read him one more book before bedtime....I've got that Catholic guilt thing down pat--who needs a parent or a priest? I can conjure up some guilt from 70's AM radio hits....
