One band that seems to outshine themselves after every album. The perfect blend of destructive Swedish death metal, and melodic acoustics. These guys bleed riffs.

I know there are a few fans here, so check out the opening track....

I'll check this out. I used to be obsessed with them around the release of Blackwater Park, especially the song "Bleak," but the vocals were/(are?) too much for me.

a nice mix of vocals on this album. damnation helped them introduce more regular vocals [which is a good thing].

There's more clean vocals on this album than on any other album they've done (short of Damnation). I suspect that if you love the music, this will be the one to take you back.

picked this up yesterday and it is really good if you are into this sort of thing. There are definitely some monster riffs.

Probably too many clean vocals for a lot of death metal fans, though.

A week spent listening to this has elevated it to probably my favorite album of theirs, but I do listen to Damnation a hell of a lot, so it might only be #2. This is an incredible piece of work - lots of texture and variety, moreso than on anything else they've done. They're kind of crossing over to prog-metal territory with this one. If anyone's familiar with Pain of Salvation, I'm starting to hear some similarities in the clean-vocal sections (and if you're into prog-metal, you need to check out Pain of Salvation - Remedy Lane and The Perfect Element Part I are killer albums. If you're not into prog-metal, you'll think this stuff is pretty dorky.)

They had the best hair at Sounds of the Underground this summer. :)

I'm surprised with how good this is. Having never heard any Opeth before I was expecting some bludgeoning cookie monster vocals over massive, tired, recycled riffs but I couldn't be more wrong. Parts of this are delicate and beautiful sounding. There's a little bit of everything in it.

Big ups to Dalen for posting this.

Funny an Opeth thread should appear after I was just seriously considering selling my copy of Damnation.
