Is The Tain indicative of The Decemberists sound?

I'm pretty sure I wasted $8 for 18 minutes of dreck.

I would say The Tain has elements of their sound but their full albums are quite different.

Kind of but I have played it by far the least. That EP is just one long song, where albums are always a bit different.

I happen to love this band but wonder my reaction to them if this was my introduction to them. When I d/l the debut, oh so long ago, it quickly became my most played album. They just seemed to fill that void that Neutral Milk Hotel left. So I guess what I’m trying to say is leave an open mind because they are a great band and their newest album is still in my top 20 for this year.

wait so if the album is just one song it only counts as one track on download sites? What about that Fantomas album?

The Decemberists are shite, btw

Seeing 'em next week and hoping that all the more recent reviews of them will change my opinion from the first time seeing them live. Saving grace = Sons & Daughters are opening.

Productive comment towards the original question.

The Tain is fairly weak compared to their full lengths. I heard it before buying & didn't choose to do so. If you are looking to get into the band any of the three full lengths are great.
