Total 70's punk attitude, fun songs, with loads a snarl. Think The Clash mixed with The Libertines. Fuck yeah.

Their new album is released this October, and is called "First Comes First". Here's a track from it...

The Paddingtons - Sorry

I can't YSI, but I'll look out for this, D. One thing - isn't the Clash mixed with the Libertines still the Clash? Or is it the Libertines mixed with the latterday dub 'n' disco fuckeroo of the Clash?

You almost lost me with the Libertines reference, but I have to say, that was pretty good. Thanks.

Eh...I didn't really like it. Too much jangly indie in it to call it punk. Sounds like every other Libertines-styled release of the last couple years.

good point.

The Paddingtons have the same raw energy, and simple riffing style of The Clash [The Libs]. Basic but brilliant IMO. One of the tunes on this album has some dubby feel to it as well.

I like this, because unlike so many other bands, it's just straight ahead punk influenced rock n roll. No dancey bits, no fashion, no mohawks. Guitars, sweat, and probably quite a bit of alcohol.

Dalen merely said it had "'70s punk attitude", which wouldn't automatically disqualify it from also having some "jangly indie in it". And besides, you've got to walk away from this stringent, teenaged definition of punk. Punk is anything it wants to be.

I've been diggin' on The Paddingtons for awhile now -- can't wait for them to make it to the west coast.

I agree with this. It took me a little while to get used to the vocals, but I really like it.

there's no comparing these 2 bands though, as they have totally different sounds.

Gogol Bordello's mix of sounds doesn't please me. I don't dig on kitsch. IMO, it's not pure.

Gorgol Bordello is decent, but the new Ralph Alessi jazz quintet is better.

I hear way more Libertines than Clash in there...bnut I do like it.

It's more up my alley than Gogol Bordello...which I enjoy but only for short bursts, then the novelty wears off for me.

Do, what else can ya tell me about these Paddingtons fellas? Been around long? Other albums good?

only a demo and 3 singles prior to this album. only been around for a few years. they're a band that spawned from the love for The Libertines in London [also see The Others, Special Needs, Thee Unstrung]. a brilliant live band i've been told, and they're favorites of Pete Doherty [if that means a piss].

Dear Dalen,

I approve of this little ditty.
Shall I send you some marmalade?
Yours warmly,
