This pleases me to no end...

Rosebuds Album Out Next Week Via Merge, Tour Kicks Off Tonight

Jessica Suarez reports:
According to their bio, the Rosebuds' Ivan Howard and Kelly Crisp played their first show just a week after they got married. That sounds so much more romantic than going to Yellowstone National Park or giving birth, which is what I did on my honeymoon. The band's second album, Birds Make Good Neighbors, will be available Sept. 13, and, like the band's debut, The Rosebuds Make Out, will be released on Merge Records. The label choice makes sense, as the Rosebuds are from Raleigh, N.C., and also produce great pop songs like so much of Merge's roster, albeit without the bombast and extra fuss (you know who I mean.) The tracks, in order of appearance:

01 Hold Hands and Fight
02 Boxcar
03 Leaves Do Fall
04 Wildcat
05 The Lovers' Rights
06 Blue Bird
07 Outnumbered
08 Shake Our Tree
09 Let Us Go
10 Warm Where You Lay
11 4-Track Love Song

The Rosebuds are also touring to support the record, starting tonight. They'll be joining labelmates Portastic for a handful of dates:

09-09 Bloomington, IN - Second Story Nightclub
09-10 Richmond, IN - Earlham College #
09-16 New York, NY - Rothko (Merge CMJ Showcase)
09-19 Chicago, IL - Subterranean, with Scotland Yard Gospel Choir
09-20 St. Paul, MN - Turf Club $
09-23 Seattle, WA - The Crocodile Cafe *
09-24 Portland, OR - Berbati's *
09-25 Eugene, OR - WOW Hall *
09-26 Chico, CA - TBA *
09-27 San Francisco, CA - Bottom of the Hill *
09-28 Los Angeles, CA - Spaceland *
09-30 Cedar City, UT - Southern Utah University
10-01 Denver, CO - The High Dive
10-02 Lawrence, KS - Replay Lounge

Makeout is still one of my favorite powerpop/indiepop albums.

Much fun.

Birds Make Good Neighbors is really good. Its kind of different than Makeout - a much more cohesive record, I think. It's a little bit less poppy in spots [even at times a bit Interpol-ish] and Kelly sings a lot more. They are a four-piece now [most of the time] and I think that is a very good thing for this band.

I agree, the last one was more of the sound of the band in a room, playing, with minimal overdubs...This one lets them loose in the studio a bit.

You know, I saw these guys open up for The Dismemberment Plan about 4 years ago in Raleigh and really didn't feel it. I have yet to hear any of their recorded output, but maybe I should try to check it out.
