we had the lease/buy argument awhile back - but a corolla - you should just buy it, the payments aren't that high anyway. if you can't afford a new one, just buy one a year old.

i can afford the considerably lower monthly payment for a lease.... not so much the loan payment if I buy...

you should seriously look into buying a used one, maybe 2-3 years old. might even be cheaper than a new lease.

I did exactly this a few months ago. Needed a reliable, cheap car just to get me to/from the train each day. Got a 2002 Corolla with 26K miles and the payments are under $200/month. Not exactly my dream car, but it serves its purpose...and I'll actually own it outright a few years down the road.

Why not try the Adobe? The first car to break the $200 barrier with a sticker price of $179 a month; made entirely of clay, it combines German engineering and Mexican know-how.

Hey, hey we're Adobe!

faced with a choice on a new, reliable, fuel-efficient car, it came down to the honda accord & toyota camry, with the camry winning.

My favorite part of that is the tennis couple.

you might also consider the Chameleon - wrecked on the outside but pure luxury inside - prevents auto theft.

Put me in the "buy a used" camp. I've never understood the appeal of leasing. You buy a Toyota, you've got a car you can rely on for well over 100,000 miles.

Just out of curiosity, what do you guys think about the 2005 Mazda Mazda3?

I liked the 2004, the 2005 should be good, too. If I had it to do all over again, I'd be owning a Mazda3.
