Observations from college, to be presented to you weekly, for your amusement.

- Ironic T-Shirts... I yearn for the day this trend dies, even though it will taste bittersweet when it gets replaced by something even more gar. But seriously, do you still think your "Italian Stallion" or "C is for Crunk" cookie monster shirt is gonna get any chuckles? Because it didn't get any for the 3 other guys I passed on the way here who were also wearing them.

- One of my classes has a mandatory, graded message board. Sweet mother of god I'm not kidding. We have to log in, and are given a portion of our final grade based on the quality and quantity of our posts. Why must you mock me, oh lord?

That's it for today.

Cap, other than your new message board that you've abandoned us for how is it?

I actually went in Urban Outfitters about 3 months ago for the first time ever and couldn't believe what they were charging for their t-shirts.

I liked some of their stuff but I remember seeing a faded ringer tee with "I"m a Pepper too!" Dr. Pepper on it for 35 FUCKING DOLLARS!

Whatever happened to just getting a band t-shirt? You could go to the show AND get a tee for $20.

i had two classes with graded messageboards in college. a topic was posted once or twice a week and everyone had to comment on it. it was very tame and many responses were incredibly bland. i started at least one war by absolutely bombing someone's response. those were good times.

So you're sayin I should've picked up the "F is for FOSHIZZLE" long sleeve?

Dude, my time to pull that off has passed but I'm bringing my message to the kids. MY GOD BLOOR! THINK OF THE KIDS!

How are they supposed to by that $20 sack of skunk weed when they're spending it on $35 t-shirts?

Scary, Dapper Derris. Scary.

Dis onea dem deals where 3 days before classes even start, there's a loooong, serious talk about "where yall gonna intern at next summer?"

I also catch myself looking at undergrads like leppers. Before classes started, this building was respectable. Now it's downright infested. Bathrooms and hallways are chock-full of sideways baseball caps, raggedy shorts and tevas. Grad students get private lounges, though, thank jebus.

But I'm getting excited. I'm finally getting an idea of what I'll walk out of here knowing in 2 years, and it's good stuff.

You need an Ike Reilly "It's All Right To Die" t-shirt. Mine comes with the pre-ordered "Junkie Faithful".

9/14/05 Update:

One class today talked extensively about the rolling stones and their long term success as it relates to companies, in respect to marketing and market segementation. Specifically, they talked about having "fans" of a brand. The examples were of people who evangelize about the relevance and quality of the stones dispite the actual quality of their output, whether it be good or bad, and how that can be good or bad for a brand.

Again, Acadamia imitates Obner.

Ah. The UW.

The only UW that counts, for all you MFs on the west coast that prattle about that school in Seattle.

There was some reading from a (very fluffy) book whose sole purpose is to relate the two worlds... business marketing and rock bands. Most of it was more or less junk, but there was a nugget or two, plus it was fun to actually know something about the source material for once. He veered towards the Beatles, saying they changed but got better and better, and I argued that we strayed from the analogy since they took in less revenue from Sgt Pepper's and beyond, dispite eventual critical acclaim. (the point was financial success)
