...packaging.
That stupid fucking envelope pack.
It's so damn hard to get the disc out.
Hate.
It.

The music... we'll see.
So far, it's good.

See that's why we should all buy vinyl...then burn it to a CD-R for convenient listening.

Since I got Funeral for $4.99, the packaging doesn't bother me.

But Todd, you WILL like this album. If you don't, you're not PopTodd but an alien imposter (maybe from Planet Radcliffe ;) )

Ditto.
I bought a regular copy just so I wouldn't have to deal with the packaging.

Godspeed CDs always piss me off, too.

I like homemade packaging. It's cool.

That said, if you don't like it, burn it (to another disc). Then you never have to open it again.

I like homemade CD art as an idea, but it pisses me off when I go to file it on my shelf. Now I'm forced to have a special pile for pretty, odd-sized CDs that don't play nice.

Yeah, but when they're as good as 5ive's Continuum Research Project's The Theory of Abstract Light, you get over it.

I regret purchasing the special edition of Radiohead's Hail to the Thief every time I add a new CD to my rack. That thing is incredibly hard to deal with.

Good god y'all - aren't you record/cd collectors enough to have a special area set up for packaging that doesn't fit your 35p5 wide x 29p5 deep world of jewelcasing?

Hell, I literally do hate the Arcade Fire, but more power to 'em with alternative approaches to packaging.

Also, in the case of the Wrens limited edition Meadowlands, isn't it all satisfying - even somewhat cool? - to know that the band themselves did all of that on their own and that you have a unique packaging for a piece of plastic?

I completely agree here. The fact that it was made by the band makes it really cool in my opinion. As a rule, I like alternative packaging. Some of it gets a bit overboard though.

I hear it's nice, especially when whole communities get together on a warm summer night to sit at the edge of the sea and jeer at the sunset.

For the Arcade Fire albums I just put the disc in one of those slim blank cases and placed it next to the real package on my shelf.

Not that I have my cds all arranged on a shelf right now, but when I did, this is what I ended up doing. From all of the Alien8 and Kranky and Constellation releases I own, not to mention the assorted other alternative packages, it probably numbers up in the 30-40 range.

This is exactly what I do with every CD that comes in a cardboard slip-case.

Record labels should always sell an album in a plastic jewel case or a digipack. That cardboard sleeve/envelope style is not good.

Digipacks have been pissing me off lately, too. I have quite a few where the pastic parts that hold the CD are broken (some of them were like that when I bought them). When that happens to a jewel case you can just replace it.
