First listen:
It sounds good, but nothing to get all frothy at the cock over.
Strong elements of Mercury Rev and Flaming Lips (more Rev).

Seems like a grower.

I was proud of that.
Use it.
Go ahead.
You have my permission.

Then, when it becomes a part of the common vernacular, you can say that you know where and when it started.

You're starting to sound like the Senator thinks.

And then a shrinker. Seriously, once I "got" this album (which happened pretty quickly,) there was nothing left for me to go back to. I find the Arcade Fire pretty flaccid now. Not that it's awful, but, in this state, there's no real fun to be had.

All you're doing is mixing metaphors.

Not really.
Altering an existing metaphor, to be sure.
But, "Frothy at the cock" makes sense in that context, too. As, what happens when something gets you really (sexually) excited. You see? I'm sure you already did.

Anyway, I'm pon my 3rd listen now and am enjoying this very much. But I still can't get past the idea that I've heard this sound before. Definately Mercury Rev-like.

It's good, but I like Deserter's Songs better. Then again, I like Deserter's Songs better than a lot of things.

It's very, very good, but I guess I just expected more.
It's not going into the scrap bin anytime soon.

On the Rolling Stone/AMG scale: 4 stars

I really enjoy it too as I do Deserter's Songs which is one of my all time favourites. It's a good comparison actually, in terms of both mood and tempo. I'm not certain which I enjoy more, I'll have to play them back to back.

I new when seeing the title of this thread what you'd reveal inside.

Bowie, huh? I'm disappointed I didn't claim that ticket sooner.

I can sort of see this comparison but I think it's more intense / grittier than Deserter's Songs. To me they bring different emotions.

Oh well, glad you like it. If it's not the epic you expected, it's probably because we all ruined for you by raving about it for so long.[/quote]
