Holy cow, I think I'm still drunk. Man, what a fun show!

Annie was a real treat, and I'm sure many of you boys on this here board would have been quite smitten. She's tiny to say the least, and was looking all 80s retro in her black leggings, off-the-shoulder chiffon top and pumps. It was her, a drummer/guitarist, and a dj/computer dude. Unfortunately, the club had her mic turned down too low, so it was really hard to hear her clearly. She performed Chewing Gum, Always Too Late, Come Together, Heartbeat (the last song of course), Me Plus One, and The Greatest Hit. She seemed very comfortable onstage, despite the oppressive heat inside-- it reminded me of the time I saw Scissor Sisters and it over 105 F in the club. Typical Portland crowd response-- a few crazy people up front dancing their butts off while the rest of the crowd was immobile and indifferent.

When Royksopp came out, a totally different vibe emerged from the crowd... in fact, it seemed the crowd doubled in size (I was on my 3rd drink by then, so who knows?) and people WERE ACTUALLY DANCING (gasp!). They were just amazing. I know it's hard to believe that two dudes on stage with their keyboards, sequencers and drum kits could provide a riveting show, but they did. It was nonstop dancing from the get-go. They performed... So Easy, Eple, Remind Me, Poor Leno, Sparks (with guest female vocalist-- don't know who it was), A Higher Place, Royksopp's Night Out, Only this Moment, 49%, Boys, Follow my Ruin, Beautiful Day (Without You), What Else is There, Circuit Breaker, and Alpha Male. I think they were shocked by the reception they got, just like I was, but they seemed really pleased.

Anyhow, would highly recommend them, esp. if you're looking to get your dance and drink on.

portland crowd reactions - can be so annoying. you get your dirty hippies dancing down in the front and everyone else chatting and looking too cool to care. seen a few shows where people really got into it - Ryan Adams and Elvis Costello were 2 I remember.

this wasn't typical Portland crowd, actually, at least not for Royksopp... I didn't see too many hippies. People were pretty stanky just because it was so flippin hot in the place.

awesome. i'm considering seeing it here on monday. i saw annie earlier this year and was a bit disappointed, but she also performed from inside a dj booth. i'm actually listening to the new royksopp now.

the true force of their show will be if chicagoans dance. people here never dance unless it's like they're supposed to. (see: lcd soundsystem)

I caught Royksopp at a surprise gig during Winter Music Conference in Miami last year, and they were awesome. Great energy, and the place was goin' off.

James...after reading this little review I'm now all about going. If you're thinking of going, let me know because I'd be down. I think my friend you met would come along as well. Sounds like a real good time!

Very impressive show last night. I think Z can attest...

Annie was fun, but that pointing thing she does at the audience has to stop. The fact she had a live drummer and at times guitarist added something to the performance. I could have seen getting into her set a lot more if it were a Friday or Saturday night. She played maybe 30 minutes? Cool, but I'd never see her again on her own. And yea, I'd do her.

Royksopp was awesome! Their setup alone was worth the ticket price. I couldn't tell you what half the gadgets were, but they looked cool. For a Monday night I think they rocked the shit out of the Metro and at times I sort of felt like I was at a rave. That is a compliment and not a bad comment because at times the Metro was live as fuck.
I had a great time! I only have Melody so I really can't comment on what was really played, but I'd guess the setlist was similar to the one in Portland.

Dnorwood thank you so much for posting your review because I would not have gone if not for your words. Highly recommended!

the last song of royksopp's initial set was amazing. that place was on fire! i was pretty pleased with their show overall too. and yeah, annie knows how to point and do that "come hither" thing, but she can't handle a crowd at all.

edit: and they wore red shirts with black ties, which i believe i've seen elsewhere before. and there was some song that totally ripped off "autobahn", but i wasn't complaining.
