Tonight: Nothing. Just gonna chill with the gf and watch our Sopranos DVDs.

Sat: Cap'N and I are playing a show @ a benifit for brain cancer research (yeah I'm sure they'll raise a ton of money what with everyone given their dough to the hurricane stuff. Bad timing I guess. Sucks for them.). Then heading over to the Willy Street Festival to catch our favorite cover band play. Then heading over to Cap'N's wife's sister's place for a house warming party. All this and somehow watching some college football in between. DRUNK!!!

Sun: Cure hangover by heading over to gf's boss's house for a going away party for one of her co-workers. Listen to a bunch of people talk about the fashion industry. FUN! Piss off boss by constantly asking him if I can watch his TV for the Falcons game. Oh well, DRUNK!!!

Mon: RAPE and DIE!!!

Ficky?!? Whoa, girl, where ya been? It's been FOREVER!

Today: Has been an exceptionally good day. This morning, VP sent me a beautiful floral arrangement as thanks for being a "team player" during my mom's hospital stay and continuing to work during that whole ordeal. This afternoon, we had our monthly birthday celebration with an added awards presentation. I surprisingly learned that I was nominated for "Exceptional Contribution" and given a $750 bonus. Definitely a shock!

Tomorrow: Gotta get the oil changed on the truck. Run some errands while that's getting done. Check out the new gym schedule at 24 Hour Fitness. Not a very exciting day. I think I'll buy some mixers and have a cocktail party for one.

Sunday: Sleep in. Go out for breakfast and order me a nice big bowl of menudo. Later that evening, see The Rakes and Her Space Holiday at the Troubadour.

seems like longer than that :D

i was very busy this summer, and internet-less for most of it. i kicked ass in two classes, did a triathlon, became a reading recluse (no tv and no internet). but there's no excuse for ignoring the obnish. it's good to (sorta) be back. oh, and thanks for the birthday wishes, everyone- so nice for a pretty infrequent poster to see.

hmm... several books for my classes (irish history, contemporary moral issues), a book about a murder in the peace corps, circa 1970's called american taboo; my friend leonard by james frey (awesome); all this heavenly glory (equally, if not more, awesome) by elizabeth crane; the g-spot (gift from ex-bf, actually rather interesting); tried to read everything is illuminated but became disgusted early on, will try again someday. currently reading and hoping to focus my senior history research thesis around the outlaw sea, about the crazy international sea merchant industry and shipping and free market craziness and pirates.

Yeah, I fucking wish. I am dumber about cars than anything, and you can't exactly get loans for these fuckers. That said, I'd like a Continental with suicide doors more than anything in the world.

Don't bother. Most over-rated book ever. I don't know why otherwise sentient people insist on sucking Foer's measly dick.

That's how I feel about Eggers and the rest of the McSweeney's clan. They make Klosterman and Bill Simmons look like original geniuses.

i enjoyed AHWOSG. was somewhat bored by you shall know our velocity, mostly because of the thinly-veiled christ-figure symbolism and pathetic attempts at inappropriate comic relief (which i usually enjoy and strongly encourage).

sidebar: i once hooked up with a guy who works for mcsweeney's. he was a douchebag.

I liked the first chapter or two of AHWOSG. Fun, and maybe even thought-provoking, but mostly hollow. Eggers gives me the same feeling - that I've been reading somebody's personal journal instead of a novel intended for a wider release.

I got my first real, post-college job, so I am celebrating and getting incredibly drunk.

Tomorrow, celebrating my friend's 21st birthday.

see, and that is what initially attracted me to his writing style - reckless abandon when it comes to any and all thoughts and/or feelings. but i know what you mean, i often feel as though he comes across as devoid of any real or tangible emotion- that it's something he maybe had to put down on paper for himself and could possibly appeal to a wider audience, but doesn't really serve any deeper purpose.

tonight: i worked late and came home to relax before going out to the leslie gore show in town only to read in the paper that the show was at 7pm. 7pm????? what kind of show starts at 7pm? is this a cruise ship show? there was another group playing at ten so it was a complete lost cause. so the whole thoing was practically over by the time i got home.

sat/sunday: running a taxi service for my kids, movie w/kids, making chicken enchiladas, painting my bathroom, (canvas) painting, groceries, laundry, domestic bullshit, blahblah...

Self serving, boring, asshat. Not creative, funny, or smart.

For once, Loogar and I agree. Eggers, ugh.

I firend dumped a pal purely because he was so stoked to have slept with DE's gf from the book a few years later. Well, not purely, but very much contributory.
