It blows my mind that some people hate The Beatles. To me, that's like hating music.

Well, I think its pretty stupid.

I don't hate the Beatles at all, but if push came to shove I'd pick Forever Changes over anything in their catalogue.

Sometimes it's not just about the music. Why something is said is just as important as what is said. The Clash lines are not to do with hating the beatles (or elvis or the rolling stones). What they are saying is that 1977 is their time, focus on the present and not the past. Kill Yr Idols so to speak.

What about "All You Need is Hate" by the Delgados?

I know the Beatles are super influential/pioneers/etc, but they're only one band. You can't expect every music fan to adore (or even like) the same band. I think Arab Strap and John Cale are both terrific, but I don't question people who don't like them.

Just got back from Barnes n' Nobley, where I was reading thru Klostermann's Killing thyself to ensure immortality, and recall that he mentioned reading Prozac Nation in '95 and being struck by the author's contention that if she were to commit suicide, she'd slit her wrists in the tub as "Strawberry Fields Forever" wafted thru her apartment.

So, not an anti-Beatles song, but a (prolly) antithetical use of a Beatles song. Which is kind of an anti-Beatles action.
