I bought a pair of brown cord jeans (well, I am probably going to end up being a teacher so it's essentially I have a large cord wardrobe) and rather naively thought they would be like black trousers or blue jeans - i.e you can pretty much wear anything with them.

But then I tried a grey t-shirt on and it wasn't really doing it and a blue t-shirt was even worse.

I need someone, possibly a stylish French gay man, to come to the rescue and suggest, via over the top hand movement and voice inflections, what sort of top I should wear with these damn things.

That guy says pastel colors, white, and if you're lucky depending on the shade red is a possibility, can go with your pants.

Yeah, but never try gray or navy. I actually like bright blue with brown. Not so much of a pepsi can color, but more of a teal mixed with the pepsi blue. I can't explain it. I don't really know if it matches but I like the way it looks.
Also, about the red, I am not so sure if it matches but it can look good in my opinion.

I wouldn't take fashion advice from me, though. I was made fun of by "underclassmen" the other day for wearing white heels after labor day.
I solved the problem by taking my pumps off and lodging them in the girls throat for being a 14 year old fashion nazi.

I own a pair of brown cords as well, I usually wear a green/yellow flannel cowboy shirt or a pumpkin orange cowboy shirt with them. Any shade of brown or tan would work well, as would almost any shade of green. Even my slightly lime green Neva Dinova "Yellow Datsun" shirt goes well with it.

I never thought of that. Green would look good with brown in my opinion

I also have a Troubled Hubble shirt that is Brown with Royal Blue print on it that looks pretty solid, so you can't go wrong with a Royal Blue or similar shade shirt.

Brown cords pretty much demand a green plaid collar-neck shirt w/ tweed sportsjacket (and don't forget the leather elbow patches). As far as I know, the pipe is optional.

Black or white go with anything right?

Black tee.

or you could just grow your beard and hair long enough to weave into a pair of overalls.

That'd be amazing. And I'm sure polka would agree that that would be the right shade of red.

Well black technically isn't supposed to go with brown, and you will catch a lot of shit from people who are really uptight about those "fashion rules" but I think it looks good. If you can wear black and tan why not wear black and brown?

Also, I presume he has red hair? That reminds me of that episode of Reno 911, where Trudys boyfriend is the serial killer they're looking for, and she talks about him weaving shirts out of human hair.

Yeah, he's a redbearded scot. wouldn't overalls made out of your own hair be fucking amazing?

I've usually gone with green and baby blue. It's a tough colour actually.

light gray would look nice, but dark gray wouldn't work very well in my opinion.

Also, to epa. Black and brown aren't supposed to go together, and tan and brown don't technically have the same rules because i've seen many people where khakis (how the fuck do you spell that word?) and black t-shirts and it seems to look okay.

Because you are in high school. No offense, I didnt either.

Ok, I did. But it wasnt as important. Because I was high.

Green & Burgundy are always good. I have two Brown cord blazers that I wear regularly with jeans and most anything looks good underneath them.

I wear a black shirt and brown pants to work all the time. I look snazzy as hell, too. Don't make me feel all self-conscious about it now.
