...The Beta Band.

According to the Sunday papers The Beta Band are about $3 million in debt and Steve Mason is a) on anti-depressents and b) currently working on a building site.

If you have anymore rags to riches to rags again, please share them.

Wow that's a damn shame...maybe we should we start a Steve Mason Relief Fund. I'd contribute, but I need to go out and buy Stripes on dvd.

It couldn't be all that bad. I expect they sell at least five copies of The Three EPs everytime TBS plays High Fidelity.

They're in debt for the same reason every other rock band is - cocaine.

Why do you think those deviants in Jonathan Fire*eater got back together in basically the same band, but with a different name? Because they hadn't recouped their powder budget... Geffen could only spare so much out of his personal supply - after that, they owed him.

I left my sunday paper in the cafe yesterday (leaving my newspaper in a public place is as close to philanthropy as I can afford) so I'm going from memory here but I think he said something like "most bands make money from touring but not us!" alluding to the extravagent stage show they put on.

Also Richard Greenetree has started a joinery business.

Joinery? Is that like carpentry (thus, the Int'l Brotherhood of Carpenters and Jointers)?

well there's a new King Biscuit Time video here so it can't be all that bad for him.
