What's everyone around here's take on this? I've heard on other boards that it's absolutely terrible, but some of the reviews have made it sound like I would enjoy it.

Haven't heard it. Will probably like it. Usually chuckle at what subsequent albums critics and one-time fans decide are "awful."

I was honestly bored by it, and haven't felt the need to return to it after 2 listens. Not awful at all, but not interesting IMO.

I liked Oh Me Oh My....., but not the two that followed it. This one sounds interesting enough for me to actually check out.

i like it.

i don't have any great insights as to why. i've liked all of his music so far and do not have alot of the so called "freak folk" musak in my collection, so when i put this on it just sounds different than anything else i ususally listen to. sounds different in a good way.

It has been forced into my ears many times now at work... it kind of drives me crazy.

I guess I'm not really one for silly lyrics. It's also just a little disturbing lyrically: so much talk of babies and how he's going to have a chinese baby and how he wants to marry little boys. It's all a little icky.

Musically it sounds alright. Ever since I figured out the lineage I find it hard not to just hear a second-rate Marc Bolan rip-off.

Needless to say, one of my pals at work thinks it's brilliant.

Doesn't bode well if that's the case. You can only get just so quirky precious before the ick sticks.

its too long with too many mediocre tracks. some great ideas, but not wholly executed. i love his lyrics and his silliness, but this was not very good.

Ick always sticks, that's why an artist shouldn't pick a specific schtick too quick.

I dont hate him, hes just not very compelling.

The closest I'll ever hcome to hearing this is if someone puts a track on a mix or if I catch a track or two on kexp.

Not too interested in it.

I listened to pretty much the entire album on this website a while ago, but it wasnt downloadable, you just listened to it off of the website. I liked it, I think i'm going to pick it up, probably once I start working again and actually have paychecks coming in.

I'm not into it. It doesn't have the charm that "Rejoicing" carries from its very first note. Neither does "Nino Rojo", but this especially doesn't.

Just picked this up w/ Bloc Party remixed, SFA and Sigur Ros. Listened to Devendra in the car on the way home & am playing it right now. It sounds great to me.

I'm a fan of the last two BTW

I ordered it. I can't wait to listen to it. Was a huge fan of Rejoicing In The Hands, so hopefully I like it.

I listened to it yesterday, and I thought it was really good.

I don't know what the hell the marrying little boys thing is supposed to be about, but a lot of the other songs have some actual meaningful lyrics. I also really like the one or two T. Rex-style rockers, and it really isn't enough of a ripoff for me to dismiss it as purely derivative.

It's pretty funny how he's being offhandedly dismissed by so many people now when all he's really done is mature nicely on this album. The schtick actually seems toned down to my ears. Guess he just isn't the flavor of the moment anymore. That's probably a good thing.
