from the BJM list:

Okay folks, so apparently a relatively tragic thing has happened tonight. In Brooklyn, before the BJM's Bowery Ballroom show, the band's van along with the U-haul trailer containing ALL OF THE BANDS EQUIPMENT was stolen.
People I guess have hustled to get stuff together for them to play the gig tonight but that leaves Anton, Rickey, Frankie, Collin, and Dan without a vehicle and most importantly, without all of their precious musical instruments and amplifiers.

If everyone in the area (or even not so close) keeps an eye out at pawn shops, music stores, private sellers, and even e-bay for this missing gear- it could help eventually track some of it down.

We'll try to provide a more comprehensive list eventually- but off the top of my head is this-

Gretch 1960's round badge drum kit-turquoise.
-kick drum has the BJM logo on it (who knows- the robbers might be stupid enough not to take it off)

Fender Bassman 1960's blackface head
-notable that the 'B' is blackend out so that it reads "assman"
-this is one of the most unique and amazing sounding bass rigs, has a really warm, big fucked up fuzz sound when turned up.

Frankie's 1970's siverface Fender Twin amp

2 Fender Twin re-issue black face amps
- the one Anton plays is notable for it's amazing huge sounding reverb. Basically it is a huge part of Anton's sound.
-notable for a sticker on the front that reads "Masonic" (again, the bandits might be stupid enough...)

Collin's Rickenbacker bass- red

Rickey's 12-string 1960's Gibson ES-335 (possibly (hopefully) he had this with him and it was not stolen) -amazingly beautiful guitar

Vox Cheetah- maroon
-quite fucked up from years of tour abuse, but Anton's main guitar (owned by Frankie)

Vox 12-string Phantom- black and white

Vox 12-string Starstreamer- sunburst teardrop shape

Rickenbacker 12-string 360- black and white

Epiphone 6-string- sunburst

Frankie also has a Telecaster- I'm not sure the details of it.

I'm sure there was more but if people spread the word out there for this gear and people keep their eyes open- some of it might pop up- especially being sold/bought together, then there might be a chance of retrieving some of this stuff.

As of now, I do not know what will happen with the few remaining shows of the tour. We gotta still figure out how to get the guys home! Anyway, it's a terrible situation- a band's worst nightmare- and maybe through everyone's love and support we can get through it and hopefully getting some of the stuff back will lessen this huge blow that was dealt to
the Brian Jonestown Massacre.

Don't bands know by now to keep their equipment locked up? After hearing about the second or third band getting all their equipment stolen I'd be making sure things were pretty secure...

Indie bands need some Suge Knight/Willliam Perry dude to guard their gear.

Someone who gets hungry easily.

Everyone knows you have to secure your gear but sometimes criminals act fast and get stuff before you can even load-in. Who knows how long the van was left unattended?

A couple of years ago a Coldplay concert I was going to was cancelled because the bands equipment was ruined when it was left out in the pouring rain!

All I'm saying is that they probably weren't being very careful if the criminals drove off with the whole van.

Yeh, because nobody's ever stolen a locked vehicle before.

As I posted on another board about this...

At least 500 bandvans show up in NY over the course of 1 week and *which* band gets their shit stolen?

Come on...we were hilariously vigilant about securing our equipment.

If it was the show I'm thinking of... September 2002 timeframe? If so, then Chris Martin and Ash showed up at the Echo Lounge later that night to sing with the Frames and Waxwings. I was there... it was good! ;)

You got it! That especially sucks for you, man. What's even worse is that it wasn't long after that, that it became virtually impossible to see them at a relatively small venue. Later I heard that the band did a 30 minute acoustic set in the rain to try to at least make a few fans happy.

That had to be it, Dana. I found out later about the acoustic set that I mentioned in my other post, but that's the first I heard about an Echo Lounge performance.

Yeah, it was the same show. I do remember hearing that Chris Martin and some of the other Coldplay guys ended up playing a set in the Masquerade parking lot... wasn't that where they were slotted to play? They showed up at Echo around 1:30 am, and I was at the Frames show. I have pictures! It was a really great show, but I feel bad for Dalen! It was totally impromptu... no one knew it was going to happen.

yep, that's the show! DAMN!!!

we landed, drove to the venue and saw on the billboard "cancelled"....our hearts sunk. we stuck around for a half hour or so, but then decided to eat some food, and head to Athens for the weekend.

then, one of the guys i went with read in Spin the next month that they played an acoustic gig the same day, and also played with Ash somewhere that night [gig you went to i guess D]. sucks, but oh well.

i just caught them [coldplay] last week Tuesday in West Palm Beach. they were dead on, but i woulda loved to have seen them at a smaller venue [like in ATL].

Somewhere in the NYC metro area there is a Velvet Underground cover band with new (old?) gear.
