Jay's best after Trace & Straightaways. If it were anyone else it would be a career best.

Thanks for the YSI, Mark.
I won't be able to dl it. But I will pick it up at some point if if comes with that strong a rec from you.

I actually have mutual friends w/ Jay.
Haven't talked to them in a while though, since they moved back to St.L.

So... how is the "reunited" (new lineup) Son Volt record?
Anyone have it?

I do. Really good. Nothing new. Hard to judge it on its own merits. Would probably make a year-end list if it was somebody's debut. Still might as a Son Volt record.

They rocked so hard at the Fillmore 2 weeks ago. Band was seamless and Jay never seemed happier. They closed with Chicamauga. SWEET.
After a few plays the new record kicked in quite well. Thematically it shows the more political side of Jay as well. My #1 record of the year.

I really liked the first half but it falls off to that Jay Farrar solo record sound, which I find boring.

It's no different now - people trying to outdo ! each other in extremes. There are people who like X, and there are people who say X are wimps; they like Black Flag.
