wasn't this thread on hipinion?

anyways.

Tom Waits
Nick Cave (bad seeds/Birthday Party, and if you'll include Crime & The City Solution, though not Nick Cave-includes members from prior and present Nick Cave bands and sounds pretty much as close to Nick Cave as possible)
Sun Ra
Velvet Underground
Dead Kennedys

If I can add Big Star i'd be happy. I have no idea of how or why I forgot to throw them in there.

I'll edit it but those are the ones I listen to more than anything. Did I do this right?

yup, they're favorites, but they pretty much sum up my taste. Boring!

David Sylvian
Violent Femmes

(schizoid blend of ambience, artiness and silliness, but with returns to the essence of rock)

Yeah cuz he's not asking for our favorite artists but for the five that best describe what we like about music. Not completely the same thing.

Obviously. Hipinion is probably the worst message board that I've ever been to across the whole internet, but I thought this thread was a pretty good idea.

And no, you're supposed to try to cover every genre or style by using artists you listen to a lot. Sun Ra? You barely even listen to him compared to most things.

why do you always start threads asking other people to do something, but refuse to relay your own tastes first?

Yeah it appears as though I barely listen to him if you're judging by my audioscrobbler. But if you'd look at my weekly charts it appears as though I barely listen to anything.

Also, Sun Ra songs can get long so it's hard to listen to something that's 20 minutes long or 9 minutes long 12 times in a row. But yeah it's my favorite jazz and pretty much the only "jazz" I can listen to on a regular basis as something other than background music so I figured i'd throw it in there to pull away from the generic "rock" bands I listed. Not generic but nothing abnormal, but still my favorites and it generalizes my taste.

Because I don't feel like it right now. I'm sitting in school and doing German classwork. I like how you always suggest that I have to see what OTHER people like and then use that information to make my own.

They give us laptops with wireless internet connection to use for "educational purposes"

Great idea.

How would that make any sense anyway? I mean, what would be the point?

I'm contacting your teacher, and the Virginia Education Association. No wonder kids don't know anything these days, they spend their time in class posting on message boards about Tom Waits and Sun Ra, instead of skipping class to do drugs, drink and fuh...

I dunno. I understand WHY people like both those albums, but neither of em is my favorite.
