after last week's huge night and next week's m.i.a. after-party, i thought this week would be empty, but it was pretty full for a wednesday during the school year. there were a slew of requests that i couldn't honor, but that'll always happen. the biggest problem with that was the incredulous stares when i said i didn't have something like the paddingtons or madonna. it's not the end of the world, right? i didn't have a break, so i did almost 4 hours straight. i guess that's quite a rarity these days.

Nice mix.

I like how you sneaked in current electroclash next to the 80's synthpop.

"Can't Get Out of Bed"...awesome.

Love the amount of Britpop, and i dig a good majority of the artists you play.

Z,. where's your night at, and what's the crowd like? The fact that someone requested The Paddingtons kicks ass!

I took your advice on that Mylo album and I enjoy it. That track especially is pretty good, even if it is rather simple. You seen the video online for Oh My Gosh? I find it hilarious. I'm glad you're doing well over at the Smart Bar. Good luck with next week!

it's at smartbar in chicago, underneath the metro. the crowd varies a lot, even throughout a night. it's billed as britpop/indie/alternative, so we get a good amount of people that are pretty familiar with current trends and whatnot. the guy who requested the paddingtons and most of the other britpop is a medical student in italy, so i know to bring fresh stuff for him and his friends. we'll occasionally get a night where a group of people just want to hear 80s, which is more what the resident dj likes to do. (he's been out of town, which is why i've taken over the last few weeks.) and then after 2am, everyone from the neighborhood bars that close up at 2 come in. that's usually when i start putting in more punk because one of the punk bars basically empties into smartbar then.

it's been a good time and helped me tremendously on my confidence in front of bigger crowds. i'm used to doing small nights with a few dozen people instead of a huge club with sometimes 100+.
