Sorry if this has been posted before.

I finally had a chance to sit down and listen to the entire disc the other day and honestly, except for "Soul Meets Body" it's not good at all. Big drop off as compared to their previous work.

Agree or disagree?

Oh, and the first person to go on about how "Marching Bands Of Manhattan" is great gets a non-lubricated baton up their ass.

Solid. Possibly a grower. All the bits are in place, but it's missing something that Transatlanticism had buckets of.

Paste mag's got an article on the band in the Aug/Sept issue, plus a live song (Lightness) from their John Byrd EP is on the Paste CD.

Yes. I, too, long for the days of yore.

I've listened to it a couple of times so far. A few good songs, but overall it just feels like it's missing something. Not nearly the depth and consistency of the previous albums, imo.

Agreed. The shark has been jumped. There's a few decent songs, but mostly meh.

In between. I'm not entirely sold on it, but I don't actively dislike it. It doesn't feel like a step forward from Transatlanticism, which I think it should. What I hear is a band a bit afraid of offending the long-time fans by drastically changing their sound, but straining at the limits of what their well-established style allows them to do.

If I were a label exec at Atlantic, I'd be disappointed as hell - this is definitely not the album they were hoping for. I don't hear a lot of OC-worthy anthems like Transatlanticism was full of, which is precisely what Atlantic wanted from them. Anyone know how many albums Death Cab chained themselves to Atlantic for? I'm curious to see if this is going to be a one shot deal for them, and it's back to Barsuk for the next album.

I hope so. This week "We Have the Facts" has been in heavy rotation (my favorite Death Cab album), and then I tried listening to "Plans" and it just didn't cut it for me. *shakes head*
