So I have an iPod. Old version 20 gig, and yes, I too worry about the shitty battery life, but that is not my concern for this post.

I want to be able to upload and download songs from my iPod not just to my home computer from which it is based (a PC), but also from my computer at work (an iMac) both have iTunes. I want both computers to be my "base" without losing any tracks (I have different collections on each computer).

I've heard that there is software out there that allows you to link you iPod to various computers and upload/download songs from them. Does anybody here know where I can find those programs, or if they are reliable/trustable/or even really possible?

thanks again for the help.

they have several articles discussing how to do these types of things and have links to all sorts of third-party software to help you accomplish your goals.

Doesn't itunes actually allow this? While you have your ipod connected, i think you can right-click on it in iTunes and change it so that it only copies the songs you tell it to to the ipod. Sneakily, since you can only do this with the ipod attached, you may lose your songs to auto update the first time you connect it to your current non-base computer. But then you can just update again at home and be fine. I think. Maybe. I'll try it out and let you know if you'd like.

Best place to start. I use anapod and found it to be really versatile and fairly stable.

Haq, I don't have a right click for it is an iMac. (being a semi-sarcastic bastard)

I want to add songs from my iMac at work to my PC formatted iPod. is this possible, and is it easy?

in many cases 'control'-click on a mac works like the right-click on a pc.

I cannot even get my imac's iTunes program to acknowledge my iPod. It just keeps cycling and not letting me put anything else in it. GRRRRRRR
