What type of stuff do you enjoy listening to at night? For me, it's usually the more mellow end. Music that kind of sends me off to bed all relaxed.

Some of my night time favorites...

max richter - the blue notebooks
erik satie - for relaxation
jóhann jóhannsson - viroulegu forsetar
goldmund - corduroy road
deathprod - morals and dogma
sylvain chauveau - le livre noir du capitalisme
steely dan - aja
lonnie liston smith - expansions
bjorn torske - nedi myra
pete namlook - virtual vices IV

what are some of your fav releases for the night?

This is my ultimate going to sleep album.

I advise people not to go to sleep with Image playing, that's some nightmarish shit

Hum. I had just been thinking baout buying that Aphex record. I'm a fan but never ended up buying that one. I know it's a beaut.

Heh heh... a friend told me the exact same thing about it; that it starts out all beautiful and ambient and then from out of nowere hits you with the equivalent of an amplified dentist's drill. mmmm.

Me:

Colette
FSOL
KLF - Chill Out
Brokeback
Pauline Oliveros - Deep Listening

too many to mention... a lot of my collection fits into this category. :)

Chill Out would win a vote, I bet. I am also a fan of Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada, which makes the random city noise on the street outside seem part of a larger design.

Fossilized proto psych-folk- if it's any reference, Damen & Naomi are huge fans of Tom Rapp, the brain trust there.

--edit-- also the best fucking rainy afternoon music ever.

I have been known to go to sleep to the following albums:

Slowdive, Just for a Day
Philip Glass, Koyaanisqatsi
Jean-Michel Jarre, Waiting for Cousteau
Chris Meloche, Recurring Dreams of the Urban Myth (Namlook wishes he was this good)
Klaus Schulze, tracks from various different box sets, don't remember which ones...
Skinny Puppy, Too Dark Park

I always go to sleep with an album on normally (not counting passing out drunk).

I almost gave myself nightmares listening to Tom Waits "What's He Building In There" while trying to fall asleep.

Anyways, I personally like Slowdive, the Jesus & Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Big Star, Bjork, Galaxie 500, etc. Sometimes i'd sleep to The Birthday Party or Dead Kennedys. It's not really about relaxation to me it's just what I want to listen to. I used to make really short, 5 song playlists to sleep to. They usually had sleep related songs on them whether it be in the title or content of the song, such as "When You Sleep", but I don't like listening to full albums while trying to sleep because they log on my audioscrobbler.

See the Muse Origin of Symmetry thread. It plays music and is connected to your neck.

To this day I will never understand this. Moose put out three singles that were shoegaze and it came out in America as a compilation called Sonny and Sam. That was it, when they released their debut album, the brilliant, …XYZ they were no longer a shoegazer band. Pissed Virgin Records off and they dropped them in the U.S. and also their U.K. Hut Recordings followed suit because they wanted to cash in on the whole scene. They now have four of the best albums that no-one has heard but a long way from shoegaze. They are acoustic pop records in the same vein as the Byrds. They are suppose to be still together and release another album soon. I’m so hoping this is the case because they are one of my all time favorite bands. Great for falling asleep and still applies but sometimes you can’t help but listen to it and be happy.

Four albums I have listened to more than any other are:

Bedhead – Transaction de Novo
Mojave 3 – Out Of Tune
Unbelievable Truth – sorrythankyou
Luna – Penthouse

Bewitched.

The real answer to this question is The Low End Theory by Tribe Called Quest.
