This weekend was the Lincoln Calling Festival in Lincoln, NE. Team Love Records had a showcase show friday night that I attended. Dave Foley and Lea Thompson were in attendance for some odd reason. I guess they are filming a movie together along with Vicki Lewis in Omaha. Dave Foley got really hammered off of beer and bourbon, and Lea Thompson was hoping for wine, but had to drink beer.
I was wondering if anyone had any other celeb encounters at shows, especially people you wouldn't expect to see at that type of show.

my friend said he saw ralph macchio at an elton john concert in new york the other night. when i asked how he could have possibly recognized him, he said he had seen him in a magazine recently and commented on how different he looked, and was sure that it was him.

I saw Rivers Cuomo at a show at the Middle East a couple of years ago. He's like 5'3". If I'd known what he'd do to Weezer, I would've brained him with a mic stand.

Being that I live in LA, I see lotsa celebs at shows. I'm kinda surprised I didn't see any at the recent Madness show, though, I know they were in attendance.

Yeah - here in "Hollywood", they're at concerts all the time...

Guess that either makes us spoiled, or means that celebrities are "real people"...

I'm mostly going with the former on this one...

During the Smashing Pumkins Adore Tour , standing in front of me at the beer line was ex-quaterback Bernie Kosar. I just shook his hand , said i was a fan and told him to enjoy the show. He was in the 2nd row.

A friend of mine sat behind Marilyn Manson at a Prince concert back in the early 90's.

I've seen Jack White a half-dozen or more times around Detroit shows, Meg slightly less.
Assorted members of The VonBondies, Electric Six, Paybacks, The Sights, Dirtbombs, Detroit Cobras, etc. more than I can count.
Not to sound jaded, but it's just kind of par for the course around here.

If you're talking non-musical celebs, then I got nothing. No one comes to Michigan willingly.

I'm not surprised that he's a fan... But I'm still a bit nonplussed.

The theatre and raw sexuality of the Purple Majesty would appeal to Marilyn's aesthetic sense, I'm sure, but the music... Really?

I was talking non-music celebs since I see Conor Oberst at least three to five times a year when he isn't performing, and all the SC bands at each others shows. I have also met various members of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and TV on the Radio at several shows in Omaha.

Lately I've been seeing Jack Black everywhere... at the Greek for the White Stripes show and Silversun Pickups at Spaceland.

I've also met Adam Brody, Benjamin MacKenzie, and Mischa Burton from the O.C. at a Death Cab show.

I see James Duvall a lot (dude who plays Frank the rabbhe it in Donnie Darko).

That blonde chick that was in Thirteen... saw her at the Elefant / Ambulance Ltd. show.

Saw Elijah Wood at the Raveonettes show.

Shit, I could go on and on... this is L.A... see celebs at shows all the time.

I played a Gene Clark tribute show where George Wendt was in attendance. Bummer is, I as the only solo/acoustic act of the evening, opened the show and he didn't show up until about halfway through the night.

I've got nothin' on this front. When I was in college down in Arizona one of the local newscasters was at a small show I was at and he bought me and my buddies a round of beer. Not really much of a celebrity though, I didn't even know who he was until someone told me.

Andre from Outkast @ a Metroscene show in ATL
Michael Ian Black @ Radiohead in NYC

I've seen David Cross at a ton of shows...I remember one time at a superdrag show where someone decided to pee on him at the bar. I've never seen such a scrappy guy throw punches like that before.

Yeah, Cross always seems to show up either in Little 5 or East Atlanta.

Lessee, I saw Stipe and the guys from Widespread a million times in Athens, no biggie.

Can't think of anybody else right now.

I did meet Tommy "Wildfire" Rich in a post office a year or two ago.

actually, I usually see him in NYC...the superdrag show was actually in Hoboken.

Stipe sightings in Athens are pretty common...just don't say hi, he hates you and every other human that has invaded his town.

Yeah, dude actually hated me when I lived there stemming back to some drunken incident at a Man or Astroman/Woggles show where the guy I was with was basically berating Stipe....

So for the next 6 years, everywhere I go this creep is giving me the hate stare. It got to be unnerving. I was actually introduced to him once at an art opening and dude just looked right through me. What a freak.
