I used to love them.
I wonder if this will bring them back from the dead, or make me wish they were really dead. It's a shame that once Hutchence died, the band fell apart. I guess a unique voice is nearly impossible to replace compared to a bassist or something.

I seriously think they would've still been good if that rumor that Terence Trent D'Arby was going to be their new singer was true. I think he ended up just playing one benefit show or something with them. Then they got some lame-o to sing and now they're reduced to this.

as an australian, this show is like high treason. Michael Hutchence would be doing barrel rolls in his grave right now. Firstly, there is no chance at all of them making even slightly decent music, but more importantly, Hutchence was the lifeblood of inxs.....you cant just replace him with an audtioning process. And even if you are to betray him in such a way, you can't call the band INXS! THEY ARE NOT INXS! grrrrrr....

So I ended up getting addicted to this show - but I never much liked INXS, so I don't have any issues with the ghoulishness of the whole deal (nor any bullshit notions of "spoiling the legacy"). And, wonder of wonders, I think the band picked the right singer for 'em. From 3 years as an Elvis impersonator to a future as a Hutchence impersonator - I kinda think JD's gonna be able to manage the gig.

Anyway - the show ho' Brooke Burke (or is it Burns?) hinted that there's gonna be a NEXT SEASON, so the question of the day becomes:

Name another band with a dead lead singer who's shameless enough to go through this public audition process.

Right outta the gate, I'm guessing it's Queen.

I admit it, I got addicted too. And I'm not an INXS fan either - not that I disliked them, I just don't seek out listening to their music.

I still think it's creepy. Did Hutchence write the lyrics to the songs? I'm just curious because the new song they played sounded just like . . . um, now I'm forgetting it entirely . . . "Need You Tonight"? I don't know anymore. It sounded just like another INXS song.

And did anyone else hear during the show's run that JD's "Pretty Vegas" was co-written with one of the Farrises? I don't recall hearing that, and they kept referring to it as "JD's song," which makes something pretty fishy stink here. There were rumors at first that Mig was planted and would be the winner, but I also saw rumors long ago that JD had already been picked before the show aired.

I bet this new album of theirs is going to blow goats.

He was an Elvis impersonator? I did not know that. I guess, personality-wise he fits pretty well, but he just doesn't have the seductive charm that Hutchence had - JD's just kind of creepy. But I'm not a woman, so maybe I'm missing out on some vital sexy clues here. I don't know.

Yeah, but she also said that INXS is one of the greatest bands of all time. ALL TIME. They had some good songs, even a couple great ones, but they are far from being an "all time great."

Interesting guess and I'd definitely watch that. Love Queen - probably wouldn't buy whatever came of it, but still, I'd watch.

But weren't ratings for this really low? Like, nearly getting cancelled low - had it not been the summer, this would not have lasted, I'd bet. My expectations for a second season are very low.

Jimi Hendrix Experience - they're going to find a replacement for Jimi AND Noel.

JD's antics made the show watchable. He was one of the only singers smart (and foolhardy) enough to change the arrangements of classic rock songs and, subsequently, he always stood a 50/50 chance of either nailing it or crashing in flames. And it was fuckin' awesome watching him crash and burn. His inspired unprofessionalism is the closest a network reality show's gonna get to rock and roll - and I fully understand why your ol' mom and sis wouldn't like that.

Yeah, I'd be surprised if it was Queen - cuz the Paul Rodgers thing seems to be working out OK for them.

I can see Eddie Van Halen being stupid enough to have VH do Season 2 of this crapfest.

As far as the ratings go - they started out bad, but got better as the show went along. It wouldn't surprise me if Season 2 ( if there is one ) aired on VH-1.

"Pretty Vegas" came out of one of the reality show tasks. Two teams were given Farris's music, and they were supposed to write lyrics and a melody for it. JD thought his team's song was shit (and he was right) and went off and did his own, which was "Pretty Vegas".

The rumors of tampering are pretty goofy - because the show was set up so that INXS always had control of who got the boot (the audience vote created the bottom three, but INXS got to choose who left), so there was no need for any conspiracy.

No way Joy Division and Nirvana - though I'd cut off my own toes just to see either of those shows.

Carpenters? That could be possible.
Sublime? Not enough hits.
Blind Melon? Same as above.
Van Halen? Diggity, you might be on to something!

I got hooked, I admit.
There were actually some pretty great performances on that show. And the house band were fuck-all!

It's not too often that you get to see real rock and roll on the tube, but that was about as close as it gets. Damn, that band was good!

Despite my better judgment, I did watch this train wreck. JD was probably the best pick in terms of sound, but I think he's a far cry from the showman that Michael Hutchence was. The one thing it did do was make me wistful for some of my old INXS albums.

As for other bands to pick up the torch.... I could never see Nirvana doing this. I'm sure Courtney could whore herself out for a brand new Hole backing band. I echo Diggity's sentiments and could see Eddie Van Halen doing this.
