Do any of you ever get your groceries delivered?

Here in Chicago there are a few internet services that will deliver groceries to your house, Peapod being the main one.

What's a reasonable tip for the grocery delivery driver? Remember, the prices are already a bit inflated and you have to pay a $6 or more delivery fee. (Of course, neither of those things are the drivers fault).

5%, 10%, a straight $5?

peapod is fucking awesome. I honestly don't notice that the prices being different at all. how much are the prices inflated, if at all? That was one of the main things I was afraid of before I started using them. we usually tip $10. our orders are usually around $120-$170.

I guess I'm not positive that they are more expensive, I thought some of the stuff looked a little more expensive...but I don't have any hard numbers. My buddy was saying stuff was about 5% more on Peapod...but he's been wrong before.

well, if it is more, it's at an amount that I don't notice. although I should try to do a cost comparison at some point. however, not having to worry about trudging thru the city + dealing w/ the people/lines at the grocery store is pretty sweet. and they deliver beer!

treat it like pizza delivery, only account for the amount of trips they have to make back to the car.

my roommate has done peapod on/off for the last few months because she doesn't have a car and i refuse to drive her anymore. she complained about the inflated prices awhile ago, but i never noticed when i saw a few bills. and i doubt she tips because she has no concept of courtesy.

i actually like going to the grocery store, especially late on weeknights. maybe people like me are phasing out, though.

I like the idea of peapod because I don't have a car and it sucks walking with groceries in the winter months. I don't mind in the summer.

However, the only grocery store within 3/4 of a mile of my apartment burned down over the summer. So, now if I want to go to the grocery store I've got a walk damn near a mile! That's no fun at all and it'll be worse when it's freezing cold outside.

I figure I can do peapod for the cost of taking a cab back and forth to the store.

well, at least now you can probably go to a real grocery store instead of dominick's. (i guess they're not so bad, but i never find what i want there.)

This is a seriously alien concept to me. Grocery shopping is my main source of social interaction. Also, I can't imagine letting someone else pick out my pork chops.

Yeah, no car and grocery shopping is a bad mix. I usually only get to the store maybe once a month. I have never seen any sort of grocery delivery here in Athens. I usually just enlist a friend to take me. Doing laundry can be just as bad, but luckily I have a washer and dryer in my house.

This is my big hang-up with this whole thing, other than coverage being spotty since the service is just implementing into the suburbs here. I'd rather not get stuck with the grocery version of restaurant "To-Go" food.

I'm all for abolishing the tip system.
