So I have decided after 25 years of life and a billion years of school that I am ready to go back.

However, I am having to get my B.A. yet again because I realized that, although I am interested in history, cheffing, and writing music, I am not looking to have careers in them based on a lack of talent or lack of desire to go anywhere with my past education.

So, I have decided that I want to go back to school for film. Ultimately I would like to be director of cinematography on some level or another(I hardly know anything about it). I have only found one school that fits into the category of school I want. It's Brooks Institute of Photography in Ventura, Ca. Despite it being a spectacular looking school, it would cost me 70 grand for 3 years. I was wondering if anybody on this board knew of any schools that were 1.cheaper 2. possibly back on the east coast 3. more vocational than liberal arts type....

Anyone?

please.

You don't have to do another BA just cause you studied something else in undergrad. Am I missing something?

I don't know about cheap schools. Go to NYU!

Oddly, there's one in Chicago, too. I temped with a lot of Columbia (College) film students ;)

I had a housemate from Brooks (until she burned the house down, thanks a lot) and they're taken very seriously by the film industry sorts from what I know. Plus they surf a lot. Also, if I get a job, I'll be leaving in July and I could recommend you for my flat, which is a good one.

Yes aaron, you are missing something. Apparently, from my research, most places that offer an MFA require an undergrad degree in Fine Arts or at least 3-5 years professional experience. That's what I have found from most of my research.

Neither of those two things do I have.

Hegel's, check out Full Sail...I know they have some kind of film thingy...I have two friends who went there, and one works in ATL shooting something, and the other works for Discovery Channel and gets to go place like Mongloia and film goat herders.

They also have a music production school of some sort.

U of Texas has a pretty good film school and the city is moving (actively) to transform the city from a "live music capitol" to a "film friendly" city through transformations of the Austin Music Network, "art tax/living benefits", etc.

There are also a lot of industry people already here who call Austin home like Robert Rodriguez, Richard Linklater, Sandra Bullock, Matthew Mcaughnehey (sp), etc.

Overall, an increasingly friendly "film" city, and from what I understand, the university's program is pretty strong.

Of course, there is this. . .

So I take it you're enjoying living there? The Tourist board is calling you.
