It's not though. That's what I've gathered from the EPs at least.

This is going to be very high on my year-end list. Definitely worth a listen.

wrong. grounds for divorce.

also- "disco sheets." it's on the "official" ep released by subpop.

this album is still heavily in rotation, and i'm still in love with these guys.

Saw them open for the Arcade Fire and was like: "whatever".

Heard the EPs and thought: "meh".

Kidnapped the advanced copy from work a couple of weeks ago and have been obsessed ever since.

I LOVE love love "Sons and Daughters of Hungry Ghosts" + "I'll believe in Anything".

I just listened to this and while I liked the album, it didn't floor me. Somewhere between 'meh' and 'hmmm'. Seeing them this week, so maybe the live show will stoke it for me.

why don't you listen to it yourself instead of going by what others say.

Well i don't have it right now and have a lot of other new music to listen too, so im not too concerned, but if someone raves about it and convinces me im missing out on something special, ill make sure to give it a listen. That's how recommendations work.

does anyone else get a strong modest mouse vibe from this album? that's what i thought right away, only to later find out from katie that isaac brock produced it.

Ok it's not as bad as i was expecting, but i still don't like it all that much. The vocals are atrocious at times - 'Grounds for Divorce' makes me want to cut my ears off, and I have a high tolerance for different vocalists. It's like all the vocalists in these bands feel the need to be 'quirky' and 'eccentric' when really it's just unlistenable. The album improves alot as it progresses though and i enjoy a few of the songs towards the end.

It doesn't really sound like the Arcade Fire like I assumed it would - Modest Mouse is a bit of a closer comparison. Arcade Fire are much better then these guys, they have better tunes.

'Same Ghost Every Night' is a pretty good song, and 'Shine a Light' isn't too bad either i guess

Once again, I completely agree with splates. Although I would say I hate this band, whereas he's more indifferent to them. Yet another hyped, but truly awful, group. I honestly don't see what attracts people to them.

Well obviously not everyone is a bandwagon jumper and will start listening to this because pfk reviewed it, although a lot will. People have been posting about this band for awhile (thread was started in Jul and i remember posts before that) so obviously Dalen, Pumachik et al are into this band quite a bit, and if they enjoy it then hey, whatever.

The Art Brut album is pretty good, but Pitchfork has hyped better things than that. LCD Soundsystem, for one. "Formed a Band" is one of the best singles, though.
