...is quickly becoming one of my favorites of the year. It's quickly rising in my Top 20 and it's definitely now Top 10 material for me. By the end of the year, it may even be Top 5.

What do you think?

I love it, and they put on a great show too. The album is perfect for driving too.

I've picked this up in the store 10 times probably and never pulled the trigger. I have read nothing but rave reviews about this one. I think katie, a princess had some high marks for this one also.

God, christmas music gift certificates can't come soon enough.

I've pretty much done the same thing. It seems like every time I'm considering pulling the trigger, something else jumps out that I "have to have" and Rogue Wave gets put back on the shelf. I know I'd like it, maybe I'm waiting for it to show up used somewhere.

I saw them live a few weeks ago - a few of the songs were alright, but they veer too far to the Jack Johnson side of the tracks for me...

They remind me a lot of this band Arlo that used to be on Sub Pop, except not as good - RW seems like a band that has one really poppy idea that they try and stretch out for an entire song. You know you're supposed to like it, but it doesn't quite resonante with you...

they kinda grew on me. my first reaction when seeing them open for the shins was 'meh'. but yeah, good stuff. except for that line 'you can all get in line, and lick my behind'. as an insult, kissing someones ass is fine, but i gotta draw the line at licking.

Jamie, we are of one mind on that line. Such a good song otherwise, but it's a really gross thought.

Definite top 20 for me. The only question for me was did it deserve to make my list because it actually came out on another label in 2003.

It'll be there.

I don't care what they say about you, you're good in my book.

I'm actually going to get on it this weekend so hopefully I can take you up on the offer.

So what's it like? Description? Why do you like it? Who do they sound like? Anything?

Just curious, but it sure would help if you added a little description (you know, just a few words) when talking about albums you like that other people might not have heard ;)

Thanks!

Hmmm....

Arlo minus the Kinks influence
The Shins with the acousti-meter raised up to 11 and a lot of fingerpicking
Jack Johnson with a full band and occasional "bounce-pop" moments

They seem very "Garden State"...If you liked the music/feeling that movie champions, you'll probably like these guys...

You (and Haq) are not alone. It is that line, and only that line, which bothers me throughout the entire disc. Otherwise, I'm completely sold on Out of the Shadow.

Shiv - did you ever get your mini-disc player fixed?

I haven't used mine in ages but threw your mixes from 2001 on the other day. They still hold quite well even with a bunch of the bands really blowing up.

actually i sold it on ebay and just threw in all the minidiscs i had with it, so i'm sure someone is either enjoying your mix or it's been taped over.
