Talking about the Hold Steady made me think about this. There are bands that I would never accuse of sucking but that on a personal level, I really don't care for. I mean Steely Dan and the Who are great bands, but I really don't like either. As another example, I really like Tom Waits but kind of understand when people don't.

i've never been able to get into tool or the decemberists, and i've heard most of their stuff. individually some of their songs are enjoyable, but overall their albums have always bored the poop out of me. there are plenty others like pavement, flaming lips, mbv, sonic youth but i really haven't heard enough of their catalog to say
