I saw this movie last night. It was quite fucked up. I think Van Sant needs to stop making movies about 16-20 year olds in a school environment (Finding Forrester, Good Will Hunting, and now Elephant). Show some range.

Also shooting in Low Res in a reality style with poor lighting hasn't made any movie more original since like 1993.

Still a decent flick but I am beginning to worry that I can't find anything depressing anymore.

It was alright..

After a while, the rewinds to see the same scene from a diferent perspective started to wear on me...

I mean it's alright to do it once in a while, but it encompassed the whole movie.... Don't think I would watch it again....

reminded me of the Seinfeld episode...

This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Yeah, I've seen it. Thought it was a little weak. I enjoyed the long shots thought, didn't find if boring at all, just lame.

21 Grams... talk about depressing.
The Ice Storm... wonderful film but depressing as hell.
Mystic River... again, great film but utterly depressing

21 Grams and Mystic River aren't any good, though.

Ice Storm is fucked up and good, to boot.

Have you seen In the Company of Men? a little older, but nice and fucked up.

Also: think Van Sant needs to stop making movies about 16-20 year olds in a school environment....This is another front for child molestation

Ass to Ass

Yikes!

I actually have 21 Grams rented right now

Thinking about switching from Netflix to the Blockbuster in store program. Only issue is of course selection.

I currently have a Netflix account whilst my wife has blockbuster mail acocunt (so she can rent crap) I figure on BB in store my solve the problem.

Anybody know if Hollywood Video has a similar program

Requiem For A Dream should top your list. The Sweet Hereafter was also one of the most depressing movies ever.

Isn't "In The Company of Men" a comedy? Dark, but satirical all the same. Good flick.

Pagoda, stop wasting time and pick up some Atom Egoyan film. "The Sweet Hereafter" would be a great place to start. Then, maybe "Exotica".

Also, you should check out some of Mike Leigh's output. You might find the disturbingly quirky flick, "Naked", up to your depressing standard. Biting satire speckled with dad's favorite curse words, meshed with some ultraviolent sex - perfect for the holidays. Also, "Secrets & Lies" is a loooong, drawn-out winner. Might even jerk a few tears. But we'll still know you're macho.

True - I mean, if he's going to make movies where he forces boys to take their clothes off, what's he going to do next? I mean, I guess they should hand over the X-Men franchise to him, since the last guy I heard about who did that has moved on to doing Superman...

And Requiem is REALLY messed up... Bully seemed so out there, from the 10 min. I actually saw, that I never want to see it.
Kids was supposed to be shocking, but it's just funny now...

Substitute A Room For Romeo Brass for one of the two Kieslowski related ones I had up there, now that I think on it. You're having a sad day, buddy.

My dad thought that The Deer Hunter was an appropriate family video rental when I was about 8. Hint to any parents: it's not.

You may be able to see Mike Leigh's new one, Vera Drake in a theatre near you if you live in a city. It's a downer, allright.
