90 miles? are you serious? I thought my 20 minute drive to my other school was bad!

Holy shit! Speed demon! I love to speed, unfortunately, Los Angeles traffic doesn't allow me to these days.

Laura, you should've batted your pretty lil' eyes and given 'em some sob story to get out of it. ;)

Jesus.

I never speed anymore. Tickets aren't worth it, and you don't get there all that much faster. Well, you probably make some time on your longer commute, but the danger risks go up big time as well.

the 90 miles thing is fairly new--3 months new. i'm used to waking up and rolling over to the computer in my studio but work was getting sloooow so i'm working a full-time freelance gig that may be ending soon. waking up is the real drag but the work is excellent.

you know, i'm barely conscious of it. there's no traffic on the mass turnpike and i just drive. i don't feel in a hurry or anything. maybe i need hypnosis or something. this is getting to be a serious problem--as in cost.

My roommate got a ticket from a speeding camera in DC a couple weeks ago. Thing is, he works for Safeway Corporate and was hurrying to a store in the city at 2 a.m. that had just been hit by armed robbers for the second time. He was tempted to write a letter pointing out to Metro Police that he wouldn't have been speeding if they had caught the guy the first time.

I was about 2 mph away from getting my second one yesterday. I always see the cop at the last minute and end up slamming on my brakes RIGHT in front of him, but it almost always works.

I haven't had a speeding ticket in a long time. I've taken the whole "If you can't afford a ticket, you can't afford to speed" approach and it has worked. Cruise control is my best friend.

I have a different kind of driving problem, though. Road rage, and it has gotten progressively worse lately. I'm still pissed about an incident that happened to me two weeks ago that I almost want to type out to paragraphs describing what happened to vent yet again, but I'll refrain.

I've even considered carrying a baseball bat in my car in case anyone gets out of line.

You spend disproportionately too much gas when you speed. It's something like v^2, so you should not speed just to save gas.

Also last time a got a ticket I had almost convinced the officer to let me off "Come on mate, I've got to take these drunk guys home - Im the sober driver", until my drunk mate started yelling obscenities at the cop from the back of my car. I later stole my mate's weed as payment.

My wife is the worst "good driver" I've ever seen. I mean she can parallel park into a space I wouldn't even attempt, but damn she gets distracted easily....."oh, I didn't know they were building a mall here...." as we almost rear end a truck.

Oh man, I shouldn't be posting in this thread, it's a jinx waiting to happen. I haven't been tagged in over two years. But in a week or two Ford Racing is going to show up with a monster...

The wife has this cruise control habit that kills me... 2 lanes of freeway-style traffic, and she sets it at something. And will Not, under any circumstances, take it off. So when she comes up behind 2 people blocking the road, she gets about 4 inches off the left guy's bumper and THEN takes it off, while bitching about having to. Meanwhile, I'm in the fetal position in the passenger seat waiting for the impact. Sure, they shouldn't block both lanes, but the left guy IS going faster than the right guy, it just takes a few seconds for him to pass and get over.

Just because your speed is consistant doesn't mean the road will open up before you like magic.

Laura, if you moved to NYC, you could use public transportation. It's so much fun. :D

I had two speeding tickets within something like a year about 3 or 4 back. I've learned my lesson since then.

Both were late at night while I was on my way home, each one occurred within a 1-2 miles of home. Bizarre.

I've had multitudes of parking tickets though. And issues with license plate stickers. Josh however has straightened my ass out with this stuff. I'm very good about getting stuff taken care of right away. I'm a decent driver, these days though my eyesight has gotten worse so I either try not to drive or I just avoid major expressways and drive very cautiously.

Plus I live next to work and so I rarely ever have to drive anywhere. Though I did get a 100 dollar ticket last week for parking near a hydrant. My son had to run into his dad's house for one minute, it was the only parking and usually I get away with it, lots of people do cause Lincoln Park parking sucks ass. But not this time. Damn.

I had heard it's more that over 75 mph, you're not saving anything by getting a bit more time on arrival because you're burning gas like a mother-....

As to my speeding history, one ticket for a 51 in a 30 in Ripon, Wisc., in September 2000. A second in Jefferson County, Ind., following the Derby this year, for 74 in a 55. (I didn't notice that at crossing the state-line, KY to IN, that the speed limit on I65 went from 65 to 55...)

Got 2 in this little town I live in. But that's not hard to do, considering I was "speeding" on my wife's bicycle this morning.
